lynyona Report post Posted June 29, 2006 That is really really a nice thing to say. My DH used to be a driver on a school run to a special school (in fact the one that my ds used to go to) Some are of different abilities etc but he said the kids were really really nice always smiling and friendly and he loved it, unfortunately he had to give it up due to health problems and his PCV licence. Zemanski Report post Posted June 29, 2006 I know exactly how you feel. I work with AS adults and I love our Thursday get togethers. They are, without fail, kind, thoughtful, appreciative, fun and interesting and a pleasure to welcome into my home. What makes them even more wonderful in my opinion is the way they have accepted and enjoyed Com joining us since he's been out of school Starting music workshops again soon so no more lunches for a while , but that will be great fun too! Paula Report post Posted June 29, 2006 I go all over with my job some kids have very very complex seveare physical disablities and find it hard or impossible to communicate although it never stops me chatting away to them. So this week has made a real difference coz the kids are full of chit chat and fasanateing stuff. One girl had taught herself sign language and was signing away to a none verbal autistic girl and interpretating the conversation for me i was truely amazed .She was asking me to ask her maths problems and was working them out instantly. Id to explaine to her that i was hopeless at maths and she looked at me and said what you cant do what im doing and i said no coz youre a genius she said yes i am. I think any body who thinks aspies and kids on the autistic spectrum sit in corners and say and do nothing should go on one of these buses,Then theyd know what we all know. These kids are absolutley amazeing. Canopus Report post Posted June 29, 2006 This reminds me of the time when I was on a school trip with some kids from my residential school who I think had AS. The carer was talking to somebody who mentioned the kids were amazing and wanted to know why they were at a school for behavioural difficulties. Next thing, the carer started talking about all the nasty yobs and thugs at the school. This other person was shocked and questioned the desirability of mixing the nice kids with a load of yobs and thugs. He then asked about bullying and the carer admitted that quite a lot of bullying and victimisation took place and that some nice kids got hammered regularly.
