Hi,

I recently heard that eating an apple before bed is like drinking coffee, (if you know what I mean). Has anyone else heard of this before?

Cheers,

Eva

No - cant say I have!! But my sons nutrionalist said that bananas are full of a something very similar to caffeine - and with the high natural sugar and carb content can be extremely bad for some kids before bed !!

Eating an apple before bed can cause nightmares like cheese. It is to do with digestion. The body slows down when asleep, so heavy things like apples just lay in the stomach causing indigestion and nightmares are triggered.

Well thats the theory anyway.

Is there any food that induces sleep?! My son's still buzzing and it's 9pm (and he hasn't eaten any apples today). Last night he didn't get to sleep til nearly 10pm.

That's interesting about the bananas - one fruit we don't have to worry about though. (Bananas now cost a fortune here because the bananas crops were wiped out in a hurricane).

I thought cheese might be a good snack due to the protein in it. Not that I have a clue!

Hi Eva

I was listening to a Specialist talk about sleep disorders and he said that they need to have dinner at least 3 hours before sleep. The only thing he recommended was to wind things down an hour before sleep turn off tv computers dim down the lights and the only thing they have found helpful is warm milk with vanilla essence no sugar, no chocolate drinks this settles the digestive enzymes and assists sleeping.

Also Epsom baths because of the magnesium in it is supposed to really help also.
