Maths quiz from J

Recommended Posts

The sad thing is that my hubby can still quote Pie (is it Pie or Pi, see I can't even spell it never mind quote it  ) to all its decimal places! Quite useful in a pub quiz I guess, but what else do you use it for?

.... pi to all its decimal places? I didn't think you could do that, Com usually stops at about 10, I stop at 3 or let the calculator deal with it :P

it's a very useful number when working with circles - needed for calculating areas and circumferences

Apparently (according to hubby) it is a recurring number, but it goes to 6 decimal places and then the same numbers re-occur in the same order over and over.

And he wasn't at ALL patronising when he told me that either  Good job I love him

Jill - good thing he wasn't patronising as he is completely wrong! :P

Pi never repeats itself. Here is a link to the first million places...

But if you can't wait, here are the first few:

3.1415926535 8979323846 2643383279 5028841971 6939937510 5820974944 5923078164 0628620899 8628034825 3421170679 8214808651 3282306647 0938446095 5058223172 5359408128

Jill

Pi isn't a recurring number it just goes on forever which is one of the reasons mathematicians have been fascinated by it over the years. The figures I can remember are 3.1415926536 but the is a world record for memorising Pi. (Cuurently over 65,000 places but it doesn't really count because he got two of the numbers wrong!) For more info see

http://www.recordholders.org/en/list/memory.html#pi

It also contains a link to a site where Pi is listed to 4.2 billion places!

So you can tell you husband (In a non-patronising way of course) that you are right and he is wrong.
