  1. When will I have control of all humanity!? Argghhhh!
  2. What the hell is this. I should look at it when I'm sober.
  3. This is interesting as I've read how a lot of techies have a few AS traits. Apparently it's because the machines don't display any emotions so they find it easier to work with them. http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/04/03/stu...ergers-syndrome
  4. I was never found of melatonin supplements. It's just the idea of inducing something that should be natural. It's best to stimulate in naturally by getting plenty of natural light during the day and decreasing it in the evening and nigh easier said than done. If that doesn't work then there's probably a psychological component to it. Medication can help and some CDs are specifically designed to lower your brainwaves and induce a state ideal for sleep. I usually do that when I have trouble sleeping and when that fails the shakti mudra seems to work wonders for me.
  5. A lot of kids tootypaste seems to be low in fluotide (which some people seem to be sensitive) It also has a less stronger taste to make it more desirable to kids. It's a common thing amoung aspies to have hyperactive senses. I myself don't like the taste of toothpaste so I usually have a swig of Ribenna after (bad habit, I know). I've got used to nothing. It's the one time I don't have to worry about my clothes and because of my AS I worry a lot. I hardly buy clothes for this reason. I just find they seem uncomfortable after a while so I stop wearing them. I brought some Lynx recently (I usually use Right Guard and I was shocked about how strong it was. I usually spray quite a bit on me, but with Right Guard it wan't this bad. I'm literally choking after it. Though some are a lot more sensitive. For some it gives them headaches.
  6. That sounds a bit like me (I have AS). Well I'm a lot better now. I think it's that you just need to get into the habit. Once I done it for a week I felt I had to do it and didn't like not having a shower. I still have problems with cleaning my teeth and doing washing, but I shower a lot more. Though recently I've been missing showers due to doing other things instead, but I do miss showering. What you should do if reward her for showering everyday for about say a week. If she is good with her personal hygiene for a week then she gets a reward. Be sure for it to be something she really wants. Also try it in steps. First get her to shower properly then get her to wear clean clothes and so on. I know I for one find it hard to change multiple things at once. I know this because I'm living on my own at the moment. Though Aspies seem to have an addictive personality so this can be used to an advantage if used properly. Help her to be somewhat addictive to proper hygiene. Look into classical and operant conditioning. I'm not found of mind control, but this is for a good cause. Be careful not to make it sound patronising. People don't like that and I think it may be worse with Aspies. Try to make it subtle. Remark about the "unknown" nice smell you smell when she comes into the room and try to not instantly point out her as the cause. Then when she tells you it's because she had a shower then just say "well done" and change the topic. It's best not to make a fuss unless you know they like it.
  7. I've suffered from night terrors for the most part of my life so I know what it's like for you. Though I've recently been able to almost completely reduce them. I've also stopped my nightmares. It's a strange solution and I really didn't think it would work, but it worked well. I don't care if it's placebo or not, it worked for me and I'm so glad. If anyone wants to know what it is then please PM me. I don't want to be seen advertising products on a moderated forum.
  8. Well it is a poison, even in it's recommended "safe" doses of 1:0 ppm. There's even links that this safe dose can cause health problems. Sorry, but I haven't experienced (at least not that I know of) any problems with fluoride, but I think it's use should be limited at most to toothpaste and mouthwash (you don't generally consume these products). Though I have wondered about the links with fluoride and ASD. So how did you remove fluoride from his diet? I know it's in most toothpastes and mouthwashes and to a certain extent in our water supply. Apparently it's even in our food as it's a pesticide and in our air to some extent. Is it in our water supply (artificially added) yet? I know people want it in there but I've never found a definate answer to this question. I found an article that may be of interest to people wanting to remove fluoride from their water supply. It says that you can buy a water filtration system (reverse osmosis seems to be the only one that works) and deduct the cost of it from your water bill so it's the water company that pays for the system. They'll nag you a few times and then eventually go to the Department of Health you will pay the bill. It sounds to good to be true. I was actually thinking they should do this myself. It's great as it means we can have fluoride removed from our water and not pay huge amounts of money for it. Plus it calms the conspiracy theories that they're doing this to try to dumb us down. What a relief! http://www.npwa.org.uk/index.php?option=co...9&Itemid=54
  9. Yeah, that's a really annoying thing with AS. I've been able to pick up sounds from people outside that I could hardly hear. I just notice a distressing reaction in my chest and would correlate that with the voice. It's an acute sense of hearing for things that greatly disturb me. Plus it doesn't help that they appear to follow you around. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but I'd go to get away from their voice and they'd end up in the same place as me. The tone also appears to be catching on. More and more people are switching from their old tone to this new and annoying tone. It's like law of attraction done wrong. If you're negatively inclined then your sensitivity may increase. Not to worry or patronise you, but it started of with me as only a few people. I would hate to know of some one else go through the same thing as me when it could be stopped a lot sooner. Sound therapy? How come I never came across that? I've spent some time trying to find information on phonophobia and only came across very basic stuff. I'll try and look into this more. If you could PM me some into that would be good. Though it sounds expensive. If you could also tell me about the CD your son listened to that would be good. I don't think I've heard of sound therapy before. It sounds more speciliased and suitable for my condition. Hopefully that will be of some help.
  10. I'm 22 and have high functioning AS and phonophobia (which seems to be high among people with AS), though have only had the phonophobia for about 5 years. It's mostly with peoples voices, but I also don't like constant banging like people hammering in a nail. I'm not sure how it started, but I gradually built up an intolerance for the tone people some times use in their voice. It's gotten to the point where my heart feels dead inside. I try to do a little meditation, mindfullness and energy work to compensate, heal myself and some how learn to disolve the pain, but it gets really hard sometimes. I've tried a new strategy last night, but it didn't go to well. I'm guessing it's one of those things you have to keep up with for at least a week, though my motivation for these things has decreased a lot recently. I'm wondering if there's any way of treating this unusual disorder or will I have to suffer for the rest of my life. Is there anyone else here with the problem I have?
