Siadwell Report post Posted April 14, 2008 (edited) I need HHHHHHHEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPP. Trying to connect an xbox 360 online for our DS, have followed set up procedure as per microsoft for connecting using router/modem(siemens gigaset se587,free from Tiscali) and cannot even get the opening dashboard to come up, and after a few minutes the xbox turns itself off. Have tried lots of things i.e. port forwarding, internet sharing and countless amounts of "help" webpages but zilch. Is there anyone out there who has any experience in this maddening, frustrating, time consuming piece of inanimate objects, please... David Matthew Baker Report post Posted April 15, 2008 Is the 360 starting up without the network cable connected to it? When it starts up are any red lights showing on the front ring? The 360s can be a pain to get working properly but will try and help you through it. I have 2 setup on our network (that really causes problems). Even if the ethernet wasn't connected properly I can't think of any reason it should turn itself off. Ours is happy with or without it connected and gets to the dashboard. I expect the first thing to try is disconnecting and reconnecting all the cables (including the video lead and power) as it almost sounds as if one of them isn't connected properly. The fact it isn't getting to the dash makes me think this isn't a networking issue at the moment but one related to something else.
Siadwell Report post Posted April 15, 2008 Mr. Baker , Thank you. After reading your post it made me feel a little bit prehistoric shall we say, I was thinking that the dashboard would come up on the 'puter , but read those little words in the brackets and the whole lot suddenly dawned on me, like a 4 ton anvil crashing from a great height. Now, thankfully he is online and very joyous, once again THANKYOU...
David Matthew Baker Report post Posted April 15, 2008 You're welcome. I've been brought up on computers and have had consoles for a while. My setup would probably confuse you even more then because I have a VGA lead for my 360 so it does display on the computer monitor. (You have to use a button on the monitor to switch between sources.) At least you're sorted now. I hope you're son enjoys playing on his 360. If he's after xbox live at some point it is cheaper to buy it from certain online stores than direct via the 360. I should really get a new card so I'm not paying the full wack.
