  1. The interesting thing is that in our life the most difficulties always have come from the society,"proffessionals" and not from our autistic son. I find it frightening to read this article and to watch teh TV this morning on BBC1 at 10-o`clkock/furthere discussions on the abortion option of autistic and other disabled people`s like down syndrome life. I have found that this ideology is dreadful and very similar to fascism during the second world war. Maybe our kids are costly?Maybe some people feel uncomfatable among them so let`s finish them......... And most of these people /ASD or down/ they are a lot more honest and coloful than the rest of the population and they make positive contribution to present society as well so we should learn and if we are willing we can learn a lot from them...........
  2. How good that some brilliant social workers are still keeping in touch with us!!!!! My son /22/ so we had a handful of good and 4 handful of really bad social workers. I hope you will get what is the best now. Edith
  3. Could you ,please help where to find this chart?? It could be veru useful here too. Thanks Edith
  4. Do not feel guilty but be careful to say to social worker!!! Wacht the supernanny programs /it has helped me a lot/ and I just do not know. I think a smack /not really heavy/ happens to most of us with autistic kids. How old is he? Best Edith
  5. Dear Erika, I used to have same problems when my son was 5 year old even later. There were times when I thought he is screaming when he was asleep as I still heard the screaming. I used the "Lovaas" behavioural metthod and I have a being able to keep the rule 22 year old autistic one with severe learning difficulties and life can be enjoyable with him. This method is usually not welcomed in UK but for us it worked and for others too. If you want to know more ask me here or try my e-mail. All the best Edith

    Risperdal

Very interesting and true points thre again Lucas. I once gave my son /he was 19/ valliun only o.5 because he was very anxious and restless. The effect was the opposite. He could not sleep and was so jumpy for a good 3 days that I would not try it again and I later read about this "adverse" effect in a book or article. All the best to ypou Edith

    Risperdal

Dear Lynda/?/ How long has been your 19 year old on risperdal?? Is he still on it?? Please do answer if you can as my son is 22 and we started 2 months ago and I can find almost no medic articles on risperidone on adult ASD people. Thanks a lot Best, Edith
  13. Dear Enid, Thanks for reply. You know by the time the "kids" are 22 there have been so many "questioning" that I feel I have met a lots of very stupid professionals /I have met som GOOD ones too!!/ that I feel tired to answer stupid question and I am tired to "train" them. Maybe I should be more patient but the energy that is left I really would like to invest it all for my son and his brothers and my husband. How long has your son is on risperdal????And how many times do you have to see professionals?? Do you have to keep a diary too?? Thanks a lot.Sorry to disturb you with all my questions. All the best, Edith
  14. Go to the mail and make your vote against the test /if existed one/ if you disagree with prenatal test to detect autism in babies.I did Edith
  15. I fully agree with you.I would greatly regret if I had had a test before and I would not have my son. all the best Edith
  16. I personaly would disagree and my interpretation would be that this parent feels sad and angry and would need the right support which does not come usually from only "proffessional" people. I think we all have time to time negative feelings about our auties but then we have maybe rewarding moments too. Tricky!Autism really can be sometimes a "blessing in disguise!" at least I think. Edith
  17. The article is disgusting!!!! My son is 22 and we went through very very bad times but now I can see a young man who can enjoy his life and has got an iron will to want to learn to read and write who has lots of frustration as people do not understand him but still wants to live like we "normal?" people do and his will and achievement are inspirational ,hi gratitude for all our help is big and I love him to bits.......and admire him as well. However there were of course short periads when I thought he would have never born but it lasted for a short period only and altogther I would not swap him with my other two sons who are "normals". Difficult but rewarding job and I have never received so much kindness from anybody but my son with autism with severe leanrning diff. Not as I am not down a little bit from time to time. I do not like when people who have no autistic kids show that they are such good "exports"!!!!!!!! Good luck to all of you who is against this stupid article!! Edith Simon

    risperdal

Hi everybody, Thanks for your support. I am Edith with 22 year old Gregory with ASD +learning disab. In the end/ a very tiring and stressful stugle/ risperdal 1mg was prescribe by consultant. I am a bit worried about sideeffects but it seems to work I mean the risperdal .Less anxiety and better sleep actually too much sleep. Has any of your doctors wanted to keep up daily diary sheets /how many times and what your child repeat???Have 2 of them psychiatrists came out to see you/as my son has minimal verbal/ and have a one hour conversation?? I refused this as I could not coop with the stress of it when 2 people are asking questions and you are one.Has anything like that happened to you while administering risperdal?? Waiting for your info and wish all of you a nice day. Edith
  19. Thanks Enid, Yes I also questioned it and psych consultant knows that my son takes only 1mg/day and has improved bbut he insists that he should take 6mg/day. No reasoning with him as he does not want to accept that parents can know and that we read a lot on the "topic" and we also keep in touch. Tomorrow I will go back to social worker if I find her . I have no strenght for complain procedure anymore.by the time your child is 22 you know there were so many complains and fights. My son`s autism was the least problem to ompare with fights with GPs ,consultants, social workers.LEA etc. Although from time to time thare were a few who were good but this was exeption to the rule. Thanks for answer. Wish you a good day, Edith
  20. Dear Caroline, GP said that as my son has learning disab + autism he can only go to Learning Disab.Partnership where I experienced yhis difficulty with the psychgiatric consultant who wants 6mg/day medication where in his case 1mg/day /brought from Hungary/ would do. GP says he has no right to go to the "normal" adult psych services aand he has no right to go privately either - or at least GP will not prescribe rirperidone even it is suggested by a private consultant. Do you know how much private consulkt costs??? I wrote to NAS about it but probably because of Christmas the answer is delayed. Unfortunately thes "proffessinals" can really help me to lose my patience and then it is easy to say that the mother is not"normal". Have you experienced that?? They hardly know anything about autism or AS but do not admit it. Thanks for answer anyway. We have no such a forum as the one in Edinborough only a nice group of parents meet from time to time but they think I cannot do a lot unless I take my son privately which I dpout that I can afford. Wish you a good day, Edith
