2. Sear all of you, I would like to know how did you manage to get risperidole for your children? I was told that I belong /my son/ under the learning disab partnership and I can get authorization for Gp from them only. I have serious problems with the consultant as he wants to start my son on 4-6mg to start with and me and husband want 0.5 or 1mg to start with. Anyway he has already started 1mg /from private doctor from Hungary/ but I have problem as GP would like to give but cannot without the consultant`s agreement. Did you go with your children to NHS cconsuktants or on private?? Please do answer and help us if you can. All the best Edith
3. I am also new and find it a bit difficult how it works, where to look for answers. good luck for you too. Edith
4. Just about this assessment one Gp said "it is allright" the other one did not know what tosay the third one said it is not possible although psychiatrist is registered with British Medic.Association. Interesting??? I have been waiting for 4 moths now to get for a prescription for risperidol and have not received any appointment for 2 months as Me and husband did not agree the 4-6mg/daily dose. So we were "punished" or our son? GP says Greg cannot have a second opinion as he has learnind disab so he can see only this doctosr from social team and that is it. Edith
5. Thanks Esther. I do hope so too as we have got lots of common thimgs to deal with and to share too. Edith
6. Yes we came here 22 years ago. So I am not a beginner parent but I still find professionals very slow and difficult in undestanding lots of things about my son and about familylife when you have an asd in the family. Although I think that it is better that school years have finished and Gregory has got lots of interesting activities in colleges ,sportscenters where I am more welcome and can be involved when I wish in different activities with him. How old are your kids?
7. Hi Kathryn, I really like Sam,beckett quot.I really practise it. What about you? Bye Edith
8. Dear Dinks and others who read this, My son is 22 and I had to go to psichiatrist to get risperidol. After 4 months arguments /he wanted a dose of 4-6mg/day/me and husband only 1mg/day. After 4 months "going nowhere" and having done all the bloodtests and EEG he was not willing to give an appointment anymore.I went privately in Hungary where he received the 1mg/day risperidol. Coming back to England I took my son and consultation papers to GP who said that my son cannot be taken to any other psichiatrist as he belongs to the social service medical team because he has learning disabilities. I asked refferal to the "normal" adult pshiciatry or whether I can take my son to a private consultant and my GP said noway he can only go where he belongs to LDP medical team. I think it is a very bad discrimination as when we are not happy with one doctor we have the right to change him or her. So now I try to investigate what is legal and what is not. Throughout the 22 year not my son`s disability was the main problem but the fights with proffesinals/headteachers,LEA,consultants,social workers etc/. However out of the 30-40 people I had to work with there were 3-4 good exports too. If you know sg or sy I would appreciate your help. And how well these professionals are paid.............and are not always helpful. Alll the best every body bye-bye Edith
9. Hi all of you.I am new here on this forum. We are a family of five and our 22 year old son is autistic with severe learning disability. He was diagnosed when he was 7. He is on gluten dairy free diaet and gets food supplements and viramins and he was trained with "Lovaas" behivoural therapy which was very useful to decrease his aggression and other difficulties,biting,self-injury and to integrate him into this society to the extent that he is able to en joy the world around himself. I have learnt a lot especially from Donna Williams /an auti herself/ and Rose Blackburn /again auti and a lecturer on the topic./ I would like to talk to other parents who used "Lovaas" method and how they benefited from it. Our son also started 3 weeks ago risperidol 1mg which seems to be good:He sleeps better ,and less anxious /especially before Christmatime./ I am also interested if you have brothers, sisters of youe auti or asp how do they react to their siblings diability. I wish all of you strengh, good health and happiness for the year to come. bye-bye Edith
10. Our son is 22 year old and we had lots of problems with sleep, agression etc. We took up behavioral "Lovaas" approach when he was 11 year old we started and it has helped a lot. His condition is very severe and with severe learning disability tooo but now he is a nice and quiet young man as a result of behiviral method. He started to take risperidol 3 weeks ago and indeed it has got very positive effect on hi.First of all he can sleep which is a great releif. He is taking 1mg/day and the consultant wanted to give 4-6mg/day but me and my husband did not agree and he is reacting weel at the moment. I wish you all the best. Edith Si,mon
