  1. Hi all, I sent my son Glen to School today, my hubby took him. Glen as you probably remember has been off for a while ill and I wasn't sure when to send him back but finally decided after being at for 2.1/2 weeks Glen was ready. He was extremely anxious this morning but went off quietly. I just hope the phone doesn't ring now!
  2. Thanks bid and jaded. Yes it is surprising how long it takes sometimes for kids to get over things, it is nice to know we are not alone! It has made me feel better about my decision to keep Glen here until Wednesday just hope he will be ok then.
  3. Thanks Chris, but all kids are different. Glen is severely autistic, with severe learning and behavioural difficulties. He is not able to tell you how he feels therefore its a 'guessing game' to be honest. I don't want to keep Glen at home unnecessarily but I also don't want to send him back too soon only for the school to ring me to come and collect him because he still isn't well! Some children particularly those with special needs can take a long time to get better.
  4. Hi meethos yes I think so, Glen has to go back sometime I just have a feeling its not going to be great though. Glen has become aggressive again today, hitting his own head. I am just glad hubby is here in case Glen were to hit out at me again.
  5. Hi thanks Paula, I realise it can take a while to feel ok again and it is a difficult decision to make I think though Glen has got used to being at home with me, he has never liked School so there's so surprises that he wouldn't want to go. I did however think he would have been ok at his club on Saturday somewhere he loves going to but sadly not to be. Hubby and I have decided that Wednesday would be a good day to send him back to School it would mean a short week and also hubby is going to take him which is a good idea. I am going to ring the School tomorrow and speak to the teacher and explain the situation.
  6. Thanks so much for all the replies. It isn't easy to make the right decision I did think that Glen would be ok at his club today, somehow he loves going so thats what made me think that he still isn't feeling well.

    Help!

Hi Lisa, it is such a difficult decision to make at the moment if I get him to School on Monday like you I think they will probably ring me up to go and collect him.
  9. Glen has had a cold virus, after 2 weeks of Glen being at home I had thought that he would be back to School next week especially as he has only had a cold virus as apposed to a flu virus. The doctor came out last Tuesday and thoroughly examined him and found nothing un-toward so no anti-biotics could be given he just said it is a cold virus that can take up to 2 weeks to go. The 2 weeks is now up so what am I to do what would you do? I took him to a special needs club this morning, Glen had been there 30 minutes and they rung me to say Glen seemed unwell and was continually asking for 'Mum', so I went and collected him. This club Glen normally loves, so I was hoping that he would be ok but it wasn't to be.

    Help!

I think I've changed my mind this morning, I did think Glen was getting better but it seems to me that Glen is still feeling poorly. I don't think now he will be going to School on Monday, just when I thought things were getting back to normal!
  12. Hi girls thanks for your help. I really don't want this to continue but I don't want Glen to be aggressive either if I try to take the pillow and quilt away. It will be interesting to see what happens on Monday, Glen might forget all about the pillow and quilt when he gets home only time will tell.
  13. Hi, Glen is much better now health wise but still insists on the pillow and quilt cover coming down every day, I manage to hold him out until after lunch but it isn't easy. If anyone has any ideas on how to stop this please let me know I am getting desperate to stop him doing this. I am hoping Glen will be back at School on Monday, hubby is going to take him in.
  14. I rang the School this morning and said it is unlikely Glen will be back until Monday, which will be a day off two weeks that he has been at home. Glen is still wanting his pillow and quilt downstairs as soon as he gets up in the morning I put him off as long as I can but usually I give in and bring them down mid morning. I think Glen is now too comfortable at home in my opinion but I don't want to send him back too soon and he is not ready, so I feel leaving him at home until Monday is probably the right decision. Glen still has no interest in doing anything it is very difficult to get him to do just one thing a day.

    Help!

Hi Karen thanks for your comments. I was hoping the doctor would prescribe something but like you said they don't in this situation. I am very concerned about how and when I will get Glen back to School, the longer he is home the harder it will be as he has been happier at home at the best of times.

    Help!

Doctor has been. Glen has just got a cold virus, he examined him thoroughly and found nothing. The Doctor did say that these virus's can take up to 2 weeks to go. We just have to keep encouraging Glen to do things etc, not an easy thing to do though

    Help!

Hi Manda, each day just seems to get worse. Glen asks for his pillow and quilt as soon as he gets up, I try to 'hang him out' for a while then bring them down for him. This just isn't like Glen. I am so glad the doctor is coming out but I know it won't be before 12.00 after morning surgery. The diazepam has helped calm Glen's aggression its only short term use. I will bring it up with the doctor today. I think Glen needs some anti-biotics because his body isn't obviously fighting this virus.

    Help!

The doctor is going to come out and see Glen in the morning after surgery. You are right about the doctor seeing him J's mum, I will let you know what the doc says!
  20. Cheers J's mum makes sense what you said, how silly I am obviously he is still not feeling quite right.

    Help!

No Glen hasn't been seen by a GP, he didn't come out he did a diagnosis over the phone which I wasn't too happy about. I think I need to change doctors this surgery stinks (pardon the language)
  22. Hi, going on from my other topic 'Help', how can I encourage Glen to do something?, I did get Glen to do a puzzle this morning I did one also, but he refuses to do anything else. I just don't know what to do whether to just leave Glen sitting on the sofa as the more I encourage him to do some activity the more anxious he becomes. I know he's not been well but he is getting better now but just sits or lays there. He wants he quilt and pillow down all the time and so far today for the first time I've said no, am I right? I am trying to get him back 'to normal'.

    Help!

Hi not sure if I've spoken too soon. Glen was more anxious last night about going to bed and he is anxious this morning hit his head several times I thought he was going to hit me! I had thought the diazepam the doctor prescribed were helping but now I'm not so sure.

    Help!

Hi Kathryn, I am still feeling very tired I didn't sleep that much last night even though things were calmer, I have been resting a bit today as hubby has been helping out a lot he's a star!
