I am meeting up with a female friend I have known since secondary school for lunch later in the week. When we meet I always struggle with topics to talk about. Can anybody offer me any suggestions on topics of conversation and more importantly topics to avoid?

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I am keen to meet others who also suffer from this condition. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I get involved with Aspergers Social groups?

As somebody in their mid 30's with Aspergers should I just face reality that trying to make new friends just does not work for me and that I should give up trying.

Always hated the noise from fireworks since I was a kid. I also have a problem in theatres where a show uses pyrotechnics as part of a performance. Always hated pantomimes for this reason. Can alwxays guarantee that the wicked fairy / pantomine villian will the enter the stage under a small explosion featuring a loud bang and lots of smoke.

I did have a crush on this person at school, although it never led to anything.

It's one particular friend in particular I try to avoid. We are still friends and meet for lunch from time to time. I just cannot seem to cope with bumping into her at the station without warning. I know its silly but it really depresses me.

Is it a typical Aspergers trait to avoid making contact with people even friends just to avoid a social situation. I am really struggling with this at the moment.

Thanks. That sounds like a good idea. The friend I am meeting next week is an old school friend. We meet up from time to time but ui always seem to be the one who has to make the arrangments to meet. Do you think I should mention this when we meet next week or just leave it and wait for her to make the first move when it comes to next meeting up?

I always struggle when talking with work colleagues and friends to come up with things to talk about. Has anybody else had the same problem, does anybody have any advice on how to deal with this?

I just interested to know if somebodys personality would have an effect on how they behave in social situations and whether this would be different if somebody has asbergers?

It's difficult to know with friendships if they will last or not. I suppose knowing somebody since secondary school (over 15 years) indicates that it may last although if her circumstances change it may come to an end.

Thanks for the advice. We met for lunch yesterday but she spent part of the time playing with her phone. As I made the arrangements for the lunch I think she just agreed to meet me to keep me happy. I think I will wait for her to contact me to arrange another lunch.
