krystaltps Report post Posted January 15, 2008 I need a new font to load onto my slaptop. I'm looking for something primary-specific that has a proper number 4 (not like this one). I do a lot of work at home for "my boys" and I'm trying to make up something for number recognition and can't have an improper 4! I tried downloading from microsoft word online, but they don't do fonts. So I googled for downloadable fonts and could only find font-packs with loads of fonts that cost way more than I'm prepared to spend (considering all I want is a proper number 4... sigh) I have Microsoft Office word 2003 and it has a couple of National Primary fonts on it, but not one with a proper 4. Any font experts out there?
Mumble Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Do you have an interactive whie board? You might be able to find what you want in the Smart Board software Other than that, I know there is one font in Word that does the 4 correctly - will have a look. krystaltps Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Ta Mumble. Alas, I have no access to an interactive whiteboard... tisn't something that is of any use with "my boys". We have a back-screen projector big telly thingy, but no-one has worked out how to use it, and I don't think it has fonts... it's more for the kind of "SwitchIT" software. Mumble Report post Posted January 15, 2008 I've found: Simplified arabic Traditional arabic OCR a-extended Lucidia handwriting Corbel all in MS Word that do the 4 correctly. I'm running 2007 so these might be specific to that and not in 2003.
krystaltps Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Ta Mumble... am off to have a look. I have 2007 on my work slaptop, but I never use it as I'm not administrator and can't load on my printer software (and can't currently print out at work cos while boss has been away all us mice have been playing with the colour printer and we've run out of toner... think we'll be getting our wrists slapped when she comes back ). Will let you know if I have these fonts.....
krystaltps Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Ok... have: OCR a extended Lucida handwriting and... they both have proper 4s!! <'> <'> <'> thanks Mumble! The OCR one is perfect. Did you try them all? Bless - you have much more patience that me. Am off to make a Letterland type thing for numbers.... any help with writing songs (letterland style: "Annie Apple says ah in words") would be much appreciated. Only joking. Mumble Report post Posted January 16, 2008 Did you try them all? Bless - you have much more patience that me. One of the features I really like of Word 2007 now I've got more used to it is that it previews everything before you click to make changes so I just had to run my mouse down the list and see when the '4' became correct. The only Letterland character I remembered was Ticking Tom (or was it Tim?? ) - tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick . . .

You could try a freeware font manager for installing/removing/cataloguing/viewing fonts... far easier than scrolling through 'cos you can see all (or all of particular 'type' - i.e. sefir/san-serif/script etc) at a glance. I can recommend 'Font Thing', but haven't tried on Vista... is fine for XP... Also, if you're loking on Tucows or CNet (download.com) there's a big download called 400 + font collection which gives you, erm... 400+ freeware fonts in one download. Yes, tis Ticking tom (or you can have Tess these days as well - equal opportunities and all that), we did him last week and we're onto Sammy Snake now. It's amazing, as the child I'm doing this for is now able to tentatively sound out basic words for the first time, after 6 years full-time education. I love Letterland . I have got so into it, that I've written a Letterland recipe book for Life Skills - he's making Sammy Snake's Scrumptious Scones tomorrow!
