sassyj Report post Posted March 1, 2009 Hi Everyone, My son Mitchell has been put on the waiting list for NHS Occupational Therapy Assesment, We applied in November and finally got a letter in February saying that he has been put on the waiting list which is approxiamtely 4 months! Mitchell has high functioning autism, severe Tourettes and sensory motor difficulties so we feel he needs help sooner than this. We are also in the process of trying to get Mitchell statemented and are due to recieve the proposed statement on the 1st of April (doesnt bode well) We have decided to try and employ a private OT to get the assesment done and hopefully included in his statement but are having real difficulty finding one close to us, the closest we have found is one in surrey and one in tunbridge, this is quite a long way as we live in Dover, Kent. So can anyone reccommend a good Private OT hopefully a bit closer? Thanks Sarah
call me jaded Report post Posted March 1, 2009 You could have asked for an OT report as part of the assessment and the NHS would have had to do it within the timescales of the statementing process. Your LA would be 'allowed' to reject the contents of a report put forward this late, and you may have to go to appeal to get them to take it into account, especially if you want OT written as an educational need. Sorry to be so negative. Recommend you seek advice on the specifics of your case from IPSEA. You can look up an OT here.
