cmuir Report post Posted July 8, 2010 Hi I enrolled my son on a local autistic society group's playscheme which is ran by trained playworkers apparently. Yesterday kiddo came home and refused to talk to me, but divulged to his dad that the play leader told him that I'd written that he's argumentative (a word which R hasn't previously ever used). I explained to R that I hadn't and said I'd ask the play worker to clarify things. Today I received a note from play leader saying that R got upset during games, lashed out and made threats (which he can do and I did in fact note down in his profile) and became argumentative and debated with staff that he was being treated unfairly. He told R that I'd written in his profile that he makes threats and can be aggressive. I'm really annoyed that he did this, on the grounds that I don't think it was necessary to tell R (his profile is confidential and was never intended to be shared with the child), obviously caused upset to R not to mention it could cause serious trust issues with me (I've worked so hard to ensure that R trusts me, and this could have blown it!). Needless to say, I've written a note thanking him for clarifying things, but expressing that I felt it was inappropriate and unnecessary to have shared this info with R. Caroline. call me jaded Report post Posted July 8, 2010 Not appropriate, I agree. You could take it up with whoever commissioned the service. If it was Aiming High there's a Co-ordinator or maybe you have a specialist play team manager.
Morgado Report post Posted July 8, 2010 I agree - it seems very inappropriate, especially as R is at an age where we will not really have the capacity to understand the necessity for you to divulge this sort of information. Is this a LA-funded or private organisation? If it's LA-funded and you are concerned that this might reoccur (not just with yourself but another family), I would really recommend flagging your concerns. The sad fact is that many private companies will brush it under the carpet. But, I would wait to see what their response is to your comments (and perhaps ask for detail on what they plan to change). If you still have concerns further down the line, perhaps spring a surprise visit on them so you can see for yourself the sort of methods they use.
