flutter,

I'm not sure what you mean by problems with pragmatic but not with semantic but I'll give it a shot

semantics are just meanings of words - comprehension I suppose? Com has very high level general comprehension and his vocab is great. Many people with AS are actually above average in this.

pragmatics are to do with meaning in context - knowing when and how to use language, understanding idiom and non-literal language. This is hugely difficult for many ASD kids and there is an argument going on amongst professionals as to whether or not someone with pragmatic problems is automatically on the spectrum.

this means her use of language is a problem so she fits the speech and language aspect of AS.

The other things are:

narrow interest/specific interests - obsessions

social communication difficulties - difficulty making friends, joining in, holding a two-way conversation, adapting in social situations

routine - not liking change, needing everything to be just right and nothing out of place (unless she put it there and then God help you if you move it!)

non-verbal communication - not reading tone of voice, body language or expression properly, sometimes not even being aware of them

clumsiness or poor motor skills - some people don't have this one but there needs to be a bit of each of the others.

this is from the diagnostic criteria rather than the triad of impairment which is more an idea than a way of judging whether someone has an ASD. Hopefully what I've written (a simplified version) gives a slightly better indication of what the professionals will be looking for than the triad does.

I'd look at it as one of the 5 points is met and confirmed by a specialist (possibly the most indicative point) so you may well be on the way to a diagnosis

stay with us flutter - even if it is just pragmatics and your daughter doesn't get a full diagnosis of AS it is still important and there's no reason to think you need to leave

we'd miss you
