jools Report post Posted September 4, 2005 i have sat this morning and sorted out all the paperwork i have regarding G and put it into a file (i'm not the most organised of people ). the last letter i rec'd was a copy of the observation done by the specialist teacher from camhs. in this observation she states that G is in a class with a supportive teacher (i disagree.....i'm quite sure that if she had been observing G without the teacher knowing who she was observing she would have seen a different picture!) and also stated that he was rec help in the form of pen, computer use, pressure pad and handwriting support. all of these things have been put into place by me and would not have happened if i hadn't implemented them (i work in the school) the report reads as though the school is supportive and helpful where in actual fact i believe they have done nothing. i think (and hope) things will change this year. my question is this...... should i write a letter back to the spec teacher to let her know my feelings about the school so it is on his record........or i am over-reacting? (i'm still feeling paranoid.....after all for years i've been told nothing is wrong with him and now everyone is agreeing with me i don't know what to do......lol)
phasmid Report post Posted September 4, 2005 I think it depends on the following. Whether you have purchased the items you list or, you have sourced them as a school employee. If it is the latter then you would only have an argument, or point, to make if this was outside your normal duties (ie: you haven't done this for other children as it is normally someone else's job to source these materials) and, you felt you had to use your staff status in order to ensure your child recieved the correct support. If, however, it is the former then I would certainly feel you have every right to make this known. I hope that makes sense and helps.
jools Report post Posted September 4, 2005 makes perfect sense its the former! i bought the pen, pressure mat, extension lead and discs for computer. i take him out for handwriting practice after it was suggested i take a couple of other children out and take the stuff home for G to do here! i refused and wrote it into my timetable to enable him to do it at school thanks
phasmid Report post Posted September 4, 2005 (edited) That being the case then, in my opinion, you have every right to make this known. Do bear in mind that this letter may make it's way back to the school. That could cause you problems at work, be wary of what you put in it. I would make it clear that much of what the Advisory Teacher saw was only there due to your actions and direct purchases - not the schools. mrs q Report post Posted September 4, 2005 I would write your account of things so you have your point of view on record. Good luck
jools Report post Posted September 4, 2005 i'll be very careful how i word it! the ht knows i'm unhappy....i told him last term that i will fight for everything i believe G needs and that i believe the last couple of years have been a couple of unsuccessful years for him. he didn't agree or disagree......lol
