We've had the Wii for well over a year but recently we keep getting an error message, telling us to eject disc and turn off and turn on again. But when we turn back on, the Wii stays dead. Replacing the fuse in the plug seems to work, but we're now having to do this every couple of days, which doesn't seem right. Firstly, it can't be anything to do with the fuse... a blown fuse would stop the unit from working completely - you wouldn't get any error messages or anything like that. My guess is that replacing the fuse just 'resets' the unit, and you'd get the same results just by removing the plug from the mains. Are you sure it's not just a dirty/scratched disc? Have you tried different discs and/or using an old gamecube disc in the gamecube slot? Does your son use it for internet gaming? if so, check he hasn't downloaded any updates without your knowledge and/or tried any copied/downloaded software without being 100% sure about the source.If it plays gamecube games or different discs more than likely it's just a scratched disc and/or the reading lens is either dirty or worn out/misaligned. Not much you can do if it's the latter - it would need a repair - but maybe you could try a cd/dvd lens cleaner for the former(?) i don't know for sure so worth asking a shop if that would be okay... good luck BD Calling all Wii fans! BusyLizzie100 Report post Posted February 16, 2009 Thanks Baddad. It does actually stop working - the error message pops up, we do what it says then can't turn it back again. The only way to get it back on again is to change the fuse in the plug. And it happens whatever disc is in use. Weird, innit? I spose a cleaning disc wouldn't hurt... TheNeil Report post Posted February 16, 2009 Does it pop the message up straight away or after you've been using the machine for a while? If it's 'after a while', make sure that the machine is well ventilated, maybe try blowing out any dust that's built up around it. Try a different disc and see if that helps. When it refuses to power up, you could try unplugging the power supply and leaving it for 10 minutes to give any charge a chance to dissipate naturally - this would be instead of changing the fuse (a fuse which is probably perfectly alright). Have you tried using a different power socket? Have you updated your machine recently? If not, that might be worth a try.
