  1. thanks for your tips Esther. You're right, it is a funny time, even though we haven't got a diagnosis. I've got a few letters to send to various people, then I'm going to try and have a nice Easter holiday and try not to worry as much, save my energy. At least we've got Dr Who to look forward to next weekend! Love Karen
  2. Thankyou for all your replies. Not sure if I'm supposed to reply individually or just after the last one as new to this. Peter does have a friend at school, but it's knowing how much help to ask from a child. He has a lovely Mum and Gran (no Dad around), and he is such a nice boy, I know he would want to help Peter. With the Easter holidays approaching, I need to get something sorted out. I spoke to the SENCO at school today who rang me after I'd asked someone from the CAMHS to speak to them, about the 'Communications Team' getting involved at school. I've got to wait 6 weeks for a meeting with them at school, when I sign something, and then they will look into whether they might offer Peter any help at school. It is just such a random system. I had to spend 10 minutes talking to this CAMHS woman, before she offered to photocopy theresults of our last meeting to the school, then mentioned that we could get maybe get the psychologist involved. She said she was just about to close Peter's file, after 3 months as people get funny with cases kept open indefinitely. So we've got another appointment with her, so we can keep the file open. Do people really find visual aids helpful with older children? I must start getting over this way of thinking as we have no real menas of communicating with Peter at the moment.
  3. Hello, finally got around to writing something on here. My 15 year old son was told to leave his work placement today, as he showed no interest in the admin work he was being given, so they just let him go. We'd been worried about it for weeks, but advised just to see how he got on, which was obviously the worst thing we could have done. At least now we have something with which we can hopefully use to get him more help. They said he wasn't able to do the simplest of filing and photocopying and was generating more work for them! He doesn't communicate much at all, apart from to me, and that is getting more difficult. He is a bright child academically, and at school usually goes well under the radar, so doesn't cause too many problems, but has problems relating to other kids. He won;t accept any help, ar acknowledge that he might have aspergers. We have spoken to a CAMHs psychiatrist and ot, but Peter refused to talk to them, and they;ve been pretty useless in terms of support. Weekends and school holidays are a nightmare as he never wants to go out and do anything. Just wondered if anyone had any tips for getting on with the above, especially increasing communication and self-esteem. Thanks
