  1. Hi I'm new to this forum - only found it by accident and wished it had been around for me 10 years ago. My son who is 21 years old has Aspergers Syndrome and is trying to live a fairly independent life. He has his own flat although I speak to him every day and have him at my home 3 times a week. On the whole he is coping fairly well. I have lots of concerns and can relate to all the threads about health issues - his and mine but my main concern is the "professionals". He has a mental health social worker and until fairly recently an OT but because he also has a mental disorder - paranoia- they seem to be focussing on this and ignoring the AS when dealing with him. The latest is the social worker turning up at his flat, unannounced, waking him (his sleeping pattern is upside down) and then, in his words telling him off for the state of his flat etc, that in the end he told her to F*** O**. She obviously then left and he has had no contact with anyone from her dept. until now (some 5 weeks later) when she requested by mail an interview with him. This incident happened when at the start of my holiday in USA and I spent a fortune on the phone with him calming him down. When I rang her about the interview, as I wanted to attend, all she said that in the light of what had happened she was glad that I would be there. This meeting is for today at 2.30pm at their offices (at my son's request as he doesn't want her in his flat) and both my son and myself are really stressed about it. I thought these people were there to help him but all they seem to do is stress him out further. They are always pushing him to join "groups" which he finds extremely difficult and stressful. I'm so tired of fighting for him - don't these people ever read his notes or find out about Aspergers or if they have apply it. For example the social worker before this one was dyslexic, and lovely chap that he was, my son and him had a difficult time understanding each other especially when he said my son needed a kick up the backside to get him up!! Sorry to keep going on and on as you can see from the time (3.24am), I am getting myself worked up as to how I'm going to tackle the authorities tomorrow and at the same time reassure and keep my son calm. We as parents and certainly our children shouldn't have to go through this - these people are supposed to help and support not increase the anxiety.
