  1. I lost my Golden Retriever of almost twelve years old last month. I did cry a little, but was able to keep going as normal. Then a misunderstanding between my dog trainer and myself (resolved now) caused me to have a good cry even though it wouldn't normally bother me. Then I was watching a program and someone else was talking about losing their dog of a similar age and that brought it all back again.

Do aspies have varying levels of how they cope with grief?

  2. Ask him if he has seen these "stories" on TV. Maybe he is repeated TV dialogue or phrases from his favourite TV programmes or films. I know my son does this all the time.

My son can make up some stories himself. But often there are still elements he has taken from TV and woven into his story.

So I usually ask him what it is about. Then ask him if he has seen that on TV or if it is his own idea.

I have done this all my life....(a long time!)......usually imagining a potential scenario that may or may not happen..... I talk to myself continually as I work it all out in my head....and can start pacing and gesticulating in relation to what is going on in my head too. This was one of the things that led me to seek help, as I thought it might have been some sort of psychosis............but it was explained to me that what I am actually doing is either rehearsing or re-enacting various scenarios to help cope with social situations...many of them fictional though...and now that I know this , it seems obvious, and when I find myself doing it now.....which is virtually constantly....I only worry about it when it is a situation that I know is unlikely to occur.....it is anxiety basically. I have to do it ......but stop myself when I realise it is a situation that is unlikely to happen.

Understanding what is happening has taken a huge worry of my mind!

    Hope this may help,

Yep, I repeat phrases from tv programs all the time. I tend to copy from other people too in real life, I never used the word 'wee while' until I heard a work colleague saying it, its his way of announcing he's going to the toilet lol

  3. My best advice would be to get to the airport nice and early so you're not rushing. Me and my sister travelled back from Florida alone once and we checked in online so all we had to do was drop off the luggage. Check which desk you need to be at for checking in, if in doubt, you can always ask the airline support staff which are usually milling about the queue exits which one you need to be at. Once done, get through security, then when you've got whatever you need at the shops, I'd head straight to the boarding gate early even if it means waiting a little longer its better than being late.

  4. I think this has nothing to do with age as I'm only 28 and this has been happening for a good few years now. I think people can be forgetful at any age but I just wondered if it was an AS trait? I have got into the habit of writing down a list of my tasks at work now so I don't forget them.

  5. I think I really need help with this, but do such services exist? I think I'm at more of a disadvantage with my disability being so mild in appearance and its not really due to any physical limitations. I let things pile up as my mind can be distracted easily by other things, and I really need someone to either help or remind me daily. Its ok at work as my colleagues remind me (in a nice way) to tidy up. I'm looking into prices of cleaners but it would be nice if I didn't have to pay at least full price for one.

  6. Went into doctors as I had an infected blister, he prescribed me some cream but wasn't going to offer me any further treatment or support in taking care of the wound unless I had spoken up and asked for a practise nurse to help clean it. As in the title, sometimes you don't get until you're prepared to ask. The nurse was very good and actually gave me an appointment to go back to check the wound was healing too. Sometimes doctors don't have a good bedside manner.

  7. I can often just speak my mind which may or may not agree with other people. I go on a general pet forum and sometimes have realised that I've been a bit unduly rude, but I tend to type before I think. The question in this case was 'would the puppy's ears end up staying in an upright position or down?' I was a tad unkind in my reply, but I was just thinking, why are you asking this when it doesn't really matter?
