  1. I lost my Golden Retriever of almost twelve years old last month. I did cry a little, but was able to keep going as normal. Then a misunderstanding between my dog trainer and myself (resolved now) caused me to have a good cry even though it wouldn't normally bother me. Then I was watching a program and someone else was talking about losing their dog of a similar age and that brought it all back again. Do aspies have varying levels of how they cope with grief?
  2. I had speech delay but was told it was aspergers. I didn't start speaking until 5 years old.
  3. Yep, I repeat phrases from tv programs all the time. I tend to copy from other people too in real life, I never used the word 'wee while' until I heard a work colleague saying it, its his way of announcing he's going to the toilet lol
  4. My best advice would be to get to the airport nice and early so you're not rushing. Me and my sister travelled back from Florida alone once and we checked in online so all we had to do was drop off the luggage. Check which desk you need to be at for checking in, if in doubt, you can always ask the airline support staff which are usually milling about the queue exits which one you need to be at. Once done, get through security, then when you've got whatever you need at the shops, I'd head straight to the boarding gate early even if it means waiting a little longer its better than being late.
  5. aren't they offering you any jobs in the academy instead?
  6. Sorry what's your DS? Is that your child?
  7. I'm not officially diagnosed with dyspraxia or dyslexic although I do have occasional clumsiness. Psychologist just thought I had aspergers basically.
  8. Oh that can be a hard thing to do. You know those people that actually dress up as statues in towns and stand still then suddenly move to entertain people in return for money? You need to be really fit to do that and if you're not, then that can make you faint.
  9. I think this has nothing to do with age as I'm only 28 and this has been happening for a good few years now. I think people can be forgetful at any age but I just wondered if it was an AS trait? I have got into the habit of writing down a list of my tasks at work now so I don't forget them.
  10. If I've started to say something and I'm interrupted suddenly, I completely forget what I've said and have to think of something new to say.
  11. Standing still staring at a screen or at a specific place? When I'm having to stand doing something at work, I make sure I take the time to turn around, change position etc, and if i'm there for half an hour, have five minute walk break somewhere else.
  12. I'm addicted to butter cream at the moment, really going to try and break this habit as its not doing my body good

    Working fine for me
  14. I get that from kids mostly, don't know why.
  15. I'd love a dog that I could take to work, only reason I can't have one at the moment really. The other problem I have is whether work will accept it giving the fact I'm not blind or deaf.
  16. I hate motorbikes, there's one that comes here regularly with a big beefed up engine that you can hear for miles when he's gone. It affects my cat too, they have sensitive hearing.
  17. I think I really need help with this, but do such services exist? I think I'm at more of a disadvantage with my disability being so mild in appearance and its not really due to any physical limitations. I let things pile up as my mind can be distracted easily by other things, and I really need someone to either help or remind me daily. Its ok at work as my colleagues remind me (in a nice way) to tidy up. I'm looking into prices of cleaners but it would be nice if I didn't have to pay at least full price for one.
  18. very simple http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/pancakebatter_13556
  19. its clearing up good thanks. Might not need the appointment on Thursday but I'll see.
  20. Went into doctors as I had an infected blister, he prescribed me some cream but wasn't going to offer me any further treatment or support in taking care of the wound unless I had spoken up and asked for a practise nurse to help clean it. As in the title, sometimes you don't get until you're prepared to ask. The nurse was very good and actually gave me an appointment to go back to check the wound was healing too. Sometimes doctors don't have a good bedside manner.
  21. big supermarkets aren't necessarily more expensive.
  22. I can't do big supermarkets like the local Asda 24hr. I do the big sainsburys on a quiet day if I'm going for petrol at the same time. Usually I do the small sainsburys so I can get round quicker and get out.
  23. I can often just speak my mind which may or may not agree with other people. I go on a general pet forum and sometimes have realised that I've been a bit unduly rude, but I tend to type before I think. The question in this case was 'would the puppy's ears end up staying in an upright position or down?' I was a tad unkind in my reply, but I was just thinking, why are you asking this when it doesn't really matter?

    Baking!!

I just buy buttercream in tubs, its easier.
  25. Don't take the term sufferer too literally (yes, I realise AS people do have that trait as indeed I do) its just I chose the wrong word to describe an AS person, sorry. I suppose I should have said people affected by Autism can have normal intelligence.
