  1. My biggest talent is my music - I'm a singer songwriter and I'm very quick to recognise songs (usually within the first bar if it's one I know well) and very quick to learn them too. I also have very fast reflexes - I remember one time I was at a friend of mine's gig at a local pub, and they had set their amplifier on the table at the side of the stage because there was nowhere else for it. This meant that the vibrations from made it skid off the table during the loud part of a song, and I ran over and picked it up before anyone else had even noticed it had moved. The guitarist was pretty grateful seeing as I'd rescued about £500 worth of equipment XD
  2. Hi Jordan I know what you're going through at the moment. I'm 17, and although I'm quite mature (so I've been told, by family and teachers and older friends), I have some childish mannerisms and I like colourful/shiny things and talk a hell of a lot when I'm excited. Most of the people I hang out with are in their early 20's and they seem to treat me like I'm a child because of this (and the fact that I don't drink, but hopefully you don't have to deal with that), whereas another friend who is only a year older than me, they treat as "one of the gang". Unfortunately I think the best thing for you to do is try to find friends that understand you and treat you with respect. Just because you're young, and like some childish things, it doesn't make you a child. Hope everything goes okay for you, and I'm glad you found such a nice girl
  3. Hello all I've just gotten back from the doctors. I decided to go on my own, which I'm quite proud of because it's something I've never done before and it makes me feel like a Responsible Adult. The appointment was actually quite short, I just mentioned a few issues (socialising, eating, etc) and gave her a couple of tests that I'd taken online. She gave me a form to fill in that I have to give back to her and she'll send it to CAMS. So I've made some progress already
  4. That's a great idea - I will start the diary on Monday. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether to bring my mum in with me. She's great, and she's quite helpful, but I also very often find it hard to get a word in edgewise, and as I'm trying to talk to a doctor about my own issues, that might not be such a good idea. I don't really know how to say no to her, though. Again, thank you for your replies (:
  5. Hello again. I went to the doctor's, and it went fairly well, I think. I mentioned a few of my symptoms, and I told her that I'd taken a few tests online, so the doctor told me to print out a couple of tests and bring them with me to show her. Unfortunately the only appointment I could get is in a couple of weeks time, but it's better than nothing.
  6. Thank you all very much for your replies (: I am going to the doctor's in a few minutes actually, and my mum is coming with me. Today we're probably just going to mention symptoms and ask about getting a diagnosis and what it would involve. I haven't gotten in contact with the NAS, but I'll talk to my parents about it (there's no way I'm phoning them myself, I am terrible over the phone). I will post again on here when I get back from the doctor's to let you all know how it went. Thank you again for your replies, I wasn't really expecting anything and you've been really helpful
  7. Hi, my name's Kitty, I'm 16 years old. I think I have autism. My mum and I have discussed this and are considering mentioning this to the doctor and asking about getting a diagnosis. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on this subject, as I have no idea what to do and could really use the help. I've done a good few tests online (I know they don't count as anything like a diagnosis but I thought it might give me an idea), and they all say that I have aspergers/autism. I have difficulty socialising, I sometimes have problems eating, eye contact with people I don't know/don't like makes me uncomfortable, I struggle to follow aural instructions, just to name a few symptoms. Is there anything I need to know before I visit the doctor? Also I live in Buckinghamshire. I thought I'd mention that as I think the process of getting a diagnosis might vary from area to area. I'd be very grateful for any help
  8. Hi, my name's Kitty, I'm 16. I've never been officially diagnosed with autism, but my mum suspected I had it from an early age as I never went through all the proper stages of development (always playing alongside instead of playing with the other kids when I was a toddler, problems eating, etc). She never mentioned it to me as she didn't want to upset me, but recently we discussed it, and I took quite a few tests online and they all say I'm very likely to be an Aspie. I know it's not exactly a foolproof method of diagnosis but I do believe I'm autistic, if mildly. I thought I would look into it a little more, and this seems like a friendly site, so I decided to join up.
