  1. Thanks Kathryn,I will get onto Lewisham right away <'>
  2. Hello again,we are looking at getting our son AJ aged 9 this year asessed again for a statement. The thing is we live right on the boundry of Lewisham borough(London) but AJ goes to school in the borough of Southwalk(London). He was diagnosed at 4.5 years at his school with Aspergers and asessed by Southwalk child care.I have been told by a famliy member that we need to get him asessed by Lewisham borough child care as because this is our borough ? We are looking at this again because of course AJ will be off to secondary school in 2 years ( not long )so we are trying to get any help we can? We know that statements are now like gold dust and all the cut backs wont help our case. Also I been told that we should apply for the statement request direct as the school SEN must act within 14 days from when they recieve the request ? As they have sat on it for the last 8 months.Any advice would be great
  3. Hi everyone Thanks for the replys, well the trip went well I did tell AJ that he had autism/aspergers but to be honest he kind of just brushed it off ? He enjoyed the day out and just enjoyed the momment.I will try and explain it to him again soon but I will wait for the momment because he doesnt like me to go on about stuff and once again thank you so much for your comments and enjoy your weekend.
  4. Hi I was just wondering when we should tell our son he has Aspergers ? AJ is 8 now and was diagnosed at 3,he is quite happy at home and in school,he has his ways and moods but all in all he is quite content. We are going on a trip tomorrow with a local ASD group (our first) so I just want to be pepaired incase I get 20 questions . All the best Gorby
  5. Hi I spoke with someone at signal last week and they sent me a pack, they where really helpful and they did mention that they did have members from outside lewisham so give them a bell it cant hurt, good luck.
  6. Cheers simcat and thanks for that i will give them a bell. hope all is going well with your son.
  7. Thanks for the posts guys,I have just spent the last two hours doing a rough copy of evidence for his assessment.I have put down what i think will help AJs case but as you know when you live with this it kind of becomes the norm and it can be hard to see the woods for the trees.I said we didnt want to damage his chances because well he hides his aspergers very well, but he does have tell tale traits, running up and down waving his hands, talking very loud and excitedly when on most forms of transport etc but we love him for it all the same. Thanks for your time and I will let you know how we get on.
  8. Hi Could anyone tell me of any groups where parents can meet up and chat about all things Aspergers ,in the Lewisham area of London ? Thanks
  9. Hi people Long time no speak,I havent really posted anything on here for a while as my son who has high func Aspergers has been happy at main stream school and doing well.He is in year 3 and will be 8 this year.We had a meeting with his Sen at school a couple of weeks ago and she felt it would be a good idea to try and get him statemented as she and us thought he will start to find it harder to cope emotional as he goes foward. As I said he is happy but there are some so called friends at school begining to take advantage of his good nature and innocents. We have to write some notes for parents and childs views for statutory assessment and our Sen has given us some guide lines, but as i look at writing my feelings on how AJ is i feel that if Im honest I will destroy his chances of help? What with cut backs in local authoritys and school bugets .So any advice whould be great and talk again soon. Thanks Gorby928
  10. Thanks for the tips guys, my son is getting there slowly ,he is not to bad with the dot to dot stuff and we met with his teacher last week and she seems happy with his progress and said he traces well and is slowly taking a stab at individaul letters.I guess you say nice and slowly does it,I think maybe because we have only been recently told our son has AS I surppose we might be worrying when we dont need to but this is all new to us so you do your best. Thanks again <'>
  11. Hi Does anyone know any good books or DVDs that could help with my sons fine motor skills. He is 4 1/2 in reception but the only thing he seems to be having probs with is writing and drawing.I do sit with him and do letters and such dot to dot type books and he can do them but when it comes to free hand he stuggles.I know he is young and Im not a pushy dad,I just thought you guys might have some ideas. Thanks
  12. Hi Guys Just wanted to say thank you to all of you for the warm welcome and I will let you know how things progress. <'>

  15. Hi all I dont know quite were to start so here goes,as you can tell from the heading of this post we have just been told our son (4.5 years) has Aspergers. We are still waiting for the report from the assessment center as they are sending it to us first as we were not very happy with the first one six months back ( it just wasnt our son we were reading about )I feel after reading some of your posts that I don t know if we should even bother you guys but we are abit at sea with this ?Since last week when our son had his assessment we have read everything we can get our hands on and if our son has Aspergers then it must be very mild.We say this because he seems so happy,he loves to talk and read and count,he loves to be chased and cuddled by us.But when we read the stuff on aspergers he should be more aloof ?If Im honest he does like to play around his friends rather than with them but again he is happy and he doesnt mind when they jump all over him. When he is tiered or excited he does run on the spot flapping his hands and he does have trouble drawing but again he is smileing and happy.Apart from these little things he seems fine.WE have a meeting with his teachers and the SEN lady next week and they do know about the Aspergers so We just want to be prepaired.Just like you guys we just want whats best for him,we know its early days and we will probally have other stuff to deal with later so any advice would be great.Keep up the good work as with out you we wouldnt know who to talk to.Thanks.
