  1. I would suggest you take a copy of the ROSPA guidance: Minibus Safety - A Code of Practice in for the school and a copy for the transport company as well. You ca find it on this link. You need to highlight section 4:4.3 in Passenger safety.

  2. I wonder what RK will say to the parents of children of a similar level of difficulty who cannot fund the fee's needed to allow their children to attend the school her daughter is going to? Probably not a dickie bird but, lets face it, if the provision is failing her child it MUST be failing others too, there is no way I can accept that her child is that unique that her needs will be that much different to every other child diagnosed with dyslexia in her LA. Don't get me wrong, as has already been pointed out most of us would do the same if we could...the problem is we can't! Good luck to RK's daughter I hope it works for her, will RK now do somehing about the poor provision others are having to endure though I wonder...Hmm, now there's a question!

    Why?

     

     

    If those with ASD's can't discuss something like this on an ASD forum where can it be discussed? The problem with 'problems' like this is they get swept under the nearest carpet and never get discussed. The subject matter was quite obvious from the topic title. If it may cause offense don't read it! Oh and mini phas aged 11 heard me read the post out and didn't bat an eyelid over it but then in our house no subject is off limits to the children if they are old enough to understand it.

     

    As Baddad has frequently pointed out in the past this is a forum meant for adults and comes (if memory serves me rightly) with something akin to a pg rating in his eye's.


  4. The school your son is in should be arranging the out-reach support. It would make perfect sense (to me anyway) that they get this from within their LEA area (are they a privately run school or run by the neighbouring LEA?) and pass on the cost to the LEA you live in - THEY are the LEA who have to provide for his education. The fact that they feel that they have had to send him out of their area in order to provide the best education available is no excuse for failing to fund the provision laid down in his statement, they still have the same obligation to ensure his statement is met as if he was in one of their own schools. They are taking the pee here! If they won't send one of their own then they should pay for a different specialist teacher. If his current school are finding he needs full-time 1-1 then I would suggest the statement provision is not in line with his current needs. As part of the review they should be making the case for the hours of support to be extended...all this in ADDITION to any support from an ASD specialit teacher not instead of!

     

    As suggested , get onto IPSEA!


  5. Hope this helps people find the right bits a bit quicker. Story runs at about 37 minutes into the program for about ten minutes then a break. Picked up again at 1Hr 37 mins in. Not had a chance to hear Helen's bit yet (I'll do that later) - the first two mums on were brilliant. Knowing Helen I'll bet her bit is fantastic!

     

    In my opinion people Like Tara Flood are just like plenty of others out there who, instead of listening to what we and our children want and need, simply spend their time telling us what we should have and do. That doesn't work.

     

    Phas Jr did wonderfully well in mainstream - he still is - inclusion worked for him but, it does not work for all children and I doubt it ever will. I'm 100% for inclusion when it can work. But what does she propose instead for those who find it doesn't/can't work for them? From what I heard that part of the issue hasn't been thought through.


  6. I shall be gutted to leave where I am now. Without their support I would never be where I am now. I have made so many friends there. This weekend I have been just buzzing with the things I want to put into my job spec - it isn't written yet, first task will be to sit down with my new head and write it! Everything about this school just seemed to fall into place on Friday and I came away thinking 'Yeah, I wouldn't mind working here.' When the phone call came there was no hesitation in acepting, none at all. Quite simply...I can't wait.


  7. 5 weeks Monday I hope to make sure there is at least one mainstream school in my area that gets their ASD and behaviour approach right. As,5 weeks Monday, I will become the Behaviour Support Dept. It's a new role for the school and a new job for me. Really looking forward to it.
