  2. Just got this. Hope this is useful to some.

    Hello again

The next two chatrooms we are organising at BIBIC will be run by our own therapists and will cover two topics that have been very popular in the past. Please join us if you can!

The first concerns behaviour issues that may be linked to autism or Asperger syndrome or ADHD, or indeed may not be linked to a diagnosis but are causing stress and anxiety for you, your child and the family. Graham will help you with advice, and where possible, the strategies to think about and try out at home This will be on Friday 22 September between 1 and 3 pm

The second is on nutrition. Children have gone back to school this month amidst lots of press coverage about healthy eating, but what does this mean to your child? What if they are faddy, don't have a good appetite, or have allergies or food intolerances? Does food affect their mood, concentration or energy levels? Carolyn will be on line with some answers on Tuesday October 3rd between 1 and 3 pm.

If you have not yet registered for the chatrooms and would like to do so now, please follow the link below. For security reasons all discussions take place only with those who are registered and have been allocated a user name and password.

    To register click here:

If you have forgotten your user name and password e-mail me on the address below and I will send it. You can also e-mail me if you have any problems entering the chat room and I will try to help. Vivienne.Streeter@bibic.org.uk

If you do not want to receive e-mails from BIBIC about the chat rooms, please just reply to this e-mail with REMOVE in the subject line and we will be happy to take your address out of our database.

I hope to chat to you on-line soon.

    Kind regards

    Viv

  3. We both went with Phas jr to pick up his GCSE results this morning. He was as cool as a cucumber whilst we were a bag of nerves!!! We used to live next door o the school and have witnessed days like today many times...we never realised how much torture it was for the parents in the car park till today. When we look back at everything he (and we) have gone through to get here it has been something of an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Was it all worth it, the meetings with his teachers, the meetings with the various heads, the LEA meetings and the fight for transport when he was being bullied to death on the way home???

    ABSOLUTELY!

He sat 12 GCSE's in total and got the following:

    German D

    French C

    Statistics C

    English Lit C

    English B

Science Double B (in each of the three sciences)

    D&T: Electronic Products B

Then he got A for these:

    Mathematics

    History

    Religious Studies

    :dance::thumbs::cheers::groupwave::bounce::clap::clap::first:

We're having a real proud mum and dad moment!!!!

To everyone who is having a fight with their LEA and is finding life in mainstream hard - keep fighting, keep talking to the school and hang on in there. It can be done...Phas jr has proved that.

  4. I have just had the following drop into my e-mail in box. So, as requested, I am passing on the details:

The Autism Research Centre is hosting two events this September:

Autism: Art and Music, hosted by Jools Holland

    17th September 2006

    West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge

A concert of music and an exhibition of art by people with autism and Asperger Syndrome.

    First Cambridge Autism Research Conference

    18th September 2006

    West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge

Visit our website http://www.arc-conference.com/ for more details and to download a registration form.

Also, visit our auction of art by people with autism! This is online at http://www.arc-conference.com, click on the 'Auction' button. You can bid on artwork online and also during the Autism: Art and Music event in Cambridge on 17th September 2006. Bidding will close at 22:00 on 17th September.

I'd be most grateful if you could circulate these around your colleagues and contacts, anyone you think might be interested in attending these fascinating events.

Please register as soon as possible to ensure your seats are reserved.

Full details can be found on this link:Details

However, as seems usual with these sort of events they seem to be pricing the majority of us out of attending. Thought people might like to know about it anyway.

  5. I had to call my gp out this afternoon...the pains just got worse till my left leg was in total spasm. He thinks I have a trapped nerve possibly caused by a slipped disc (they call it something else now - means the same thing). More tablets to take and hospital if it gets worse :crying:

  6. doesn't seem to work - it usually does but these links aren't coming up

    sorry

    Z

fiddled with them double checked and now seem to work, although some of them are not now direct, don't know why they didn't work they did in preview

   >:D<<'>

  7. This link provides further links to explanations of the various parts of the education act you mention. Without knowing the reasons why they are taking this action it is difficult to know where else to point you. As you are already taking legal advice I'd stick with them and get them to guide you over this.

Rather than you could your son not apply for legal aid?

  8. Thanks, I think the drive this morning was pushing things to far. I did ok till I had to get out of the car this end. Pain was like a thunderbolt and now its horrendous. I don't see it getting better for Wednesday...

  9. I summed up my dissertation with something along the lines of those with the loudset voices or deepest pockets got what they needed for their children this followed the opening statement which was based on a 10(ish) yr old quote from an HMI report saying this was pretty much the case then as far as SEN was concerned...nothing changes then. As zemanski says thats 1 lees voice shouting up for us :(

  10. Thanks folks, as you say Jaded what timing! This was likely to be a one-off chance, I don't see it happening again - we're gutted. At least the phaslets are getting their holiday still. I'm already wincing over the thought of the trip back to pick them up next Saturday :( After this mornings forced drive I have been in agony so will try a nice hot bath...once I figure out how to get there...

Tell you what though it is very, very spooky here. Maison Phas has never been this quiet :o

  11. The start of the school holidays...and things just had to wrong! :(

It started with more tests on my kidney to find out what the heck is going on with that and just kept going downhill from there. I have a lovely set of bruises on my arm and left hand where they (eventually) put the dye in. Having been pulled about I spent the next few hours in agony as a result. So, that was Monday.

Tuesday I almost (only almost) had a pain free day and managed to get out and buy new shirt, tie and shoes for my interview on Thursday. By the evening the throbbing in my back was back...oh yes!

Wednesday went painfully slowly, but Wednesday night was oh so much fun. I went to bed (with my back throbbing just nicely - pain was on about gas Mk 2) and woke up about two hours later with violent stomach cramps which kept me up and down all night (Gas Mk 12!!).

By Thursday morning the cramp had just turned into one long continuous pain that hurt like crazy no matter how I sat, stood, or laid down. I even ended up crawling around at one point I hurt so much. I went for my interview in doubled up agony, stuffed it up and didn't get it (couldn't blame them either). Then it just got better. Mrs P went out to do somebody a favour and coming back found a pot hole in the green just alongside the house, result: a trip to casualty, x-rays and the issuing of a pair of crutches. and pressure bandage and a whole host of tendons and ligaments she didn't know she had joining the ones I had singing the hallelujah chorus..meanwhile yours truly just feels worse by the minute.

Friday (aka - pain central) by Friday I needed help. Mrs P is in huge amounts of pain and I am getting worse. persuaded the gp's receptionist I really did NEED to see him...that led to probing and poking causing yet more pain...and ultimately an injection of painkillers which helped long enough to hit the supermarket to get the last few things for the holiday all the little phaslet's were due to leave for today.

    Saturday...oh boy!

Kidney pain, stomach cramps and then getting out of bed...siatica down my left leg for me - there were some bits that didn't hurt (I think). Crutches and ongoing pain for Mrs P. So the trip to the bank was not fun, nor was packing the car.

Sunday...well it's been fun so far a two hour return trip to the pick up point for the phaslets trip was, well...,an experience! But getting out of the car and getting back in doors is something I won't forget in any kind of hurry

So all the plans we had for our first week without kids in 17 years have packed their bags and left. We'll be spending the next few weeks waiting for test results and the invention of a painkiller that does exactlty what it says on the box...as so far none of them have killed the pain....more like the pain has killed us!

Somebody tell me which god, religion, consultant to prey to and I'm there!!! ( with Mrs P following at hobble speed shortly after me...)
