This could impact on your child

Recommended Posts

I appreciate that this is very probably too late for many members here to respond but I have only just been able to take the time to read a DfES consultation Raising Expectations : Staying in Education and training post 16. the closing date for responses is June 14th.

This will apply to many of us whose children are now aged 10 and under and are going to be made to stay in full time education and or training to the age of 18.

The BIG ISSUE about this consultation is that Special Educational Needs are not mentioned once nor it appears taken into consideration. This is shocking and even if a response is submitted just asking where children with SEN ?fit in? to what is planned it is worth adding your names to the list of responses?

if you want to respond to the consultation you just click on the DfES

e-consultations home page http://www.dfes.gov.uk/consultations/ and then scroll

down to Raising Expectations : Staying in Education and training post 16.

alternatively you can go to the DfES e-consultation home page

http://www.dfes.gov.uk/consultations/ and then register before you click on the

consultation.

1/ you don't have to answer all the questions. you can miss out the ones where

you have no idea.

2/ you can also reframe the questions if you object to the assumptions behind

the multiple choice answers you are given because you have the comments box

under every question.

i really think the DfES needs telling that we won't accept one size fits all

educational provision EITHER dependent on attending a school or college OR

working towards one of their limited range of "accredited qualifications". it

didn't apply to us before 16 and it mustn't apply to us afterwards.

this is over and above the complete unworkability of compelling disaffected 16

year olds to remain in schools and colleges...

these proposals are intended to take effect in 2013.
