Minxygal Report post Posted September 17, 2007 I have a friend who has been told that the private nursery she pays to mind her children once a week in the morning, and take them to school, has refused to have her children anymore after her Autistic son had a meltdown and hit out at one of the staff. He is 8. To be honest it stinks and shes been asking me about disability discrimination but with it being a private childcare facility I am struggling to think who to direct her to, except of course OFSTED who will have reviewed the place. Does anyone have any ideas or experience?
bid Report post Posted September 17, 2007 Just a thought, but it's probably a good idea to remember that the nursery has a duty of care to their staff as well as the children. Bid
Minxygal Report post Posted September 17, 2007 Yes Bid I'd already thought of that one the thing thats bothering me is that his sister did nothing and she is also not allowed to return. As far as I know this was the first time he'd ever had a meltdown at this facility too. Seems harsh.
smiley Report post Posted September 17, 2007 Hi hun, Yes - The nursery will have a duty of care to their staff BUT, i assume the boy was dx'd and the nursery were aware of that? In which case it is too harsh. They also have a duty of care to the children within their setting......... Mand - not sure as it's privately run - but i'd assume ( ??) the guidlines are the same private or not.... ?? Not sure. Ofsted may be a good place to start - if they don't know - they'll probably know someone who does! <'>
Minxygal Report post Posted September 17, 2007 Thanks Hun, Yeah OFSTED was all I could come up with because of it being privately owned. Thanks for taking the time to reply <'>
