pearl Report post Posted March 8, 2008 Not sure whether this should be here or in Baggy's book thread, anyhoo.... I'm about three quarters through this book. Its a big coffee table type book with some stunning black & white photos of families affected by autism plus short interviews with them. I approached it with major reservations: the whole thing about parents being heroes doesnt sit well with me, I think its our children who are the heroes, or maybe we all are, I dunno .... and I was worried it would either glamourise or demonise autism. But overall, I would recommend this if you need a bit of inspiration. The book is overwhelmingly positive, though of course with so many peeps interviewed there's the occasional comment that grates. At least one family is looking for a "cure". And I would also have liked to see interviews with the verbal children & young adults represented, not just the parents. I'd really like to see a British version of this, as all the families are American.
