Sarah_H Report post Posted September 9, 2009 Hi all My daughter is 19.5 and finally after all these years it looks like we may have an answer to all our questions! On Friday my daughter was told by a neuropsychiatrist that she probably has aspergers, now we are on an 8 month waiting list to see the team who will be able to officially diagnose her. Having never heard of Asperger's until recently this is a huge relief. To visit websites and come on this forum and read so many stories of children similar to my daughter is like coming out of the shadows into the sun for both of us. All these years the blame for her struggles with life and school where placed squarly at my feet by "professionals" in the education system, I felt guilty and unable to talk freely of the problems we both had for fear of others thinking she was wierd or I was a ###### parent and finally we have an answer, and we are not alone and best of all we can talk freely to others about what has been going on! Thank god for forums like this which help us all realise we are not alone and things maybe aren't so bad after all! I look forward to chatting to you all. Kathryn Report post Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) Welcome Sarah. 19 years is a long time - My own daughter was diagnosed at 15 so I can identify with some of what you say, especially about feeling like a bad parent for all that time. It must be a huge relief but I expect the news will take some time for you and her to adjust to. K x Edited September 9, 2009 by Kathryn
