Does anyone have any tips and do you think I am likely to get it agian - I am 23 now and have had since I was 15. I just suffer from crippling anxiety and intrusive thoughts. cmuir Report post Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) Hi Don't know if you kept a photocopy of the first application or not, but it's certainly worth doing - some things may have changed for the better or worse. However, I'd seek support and advice on filling the form in. Your local CAB might be able to help or even contact NAS - they may be able to put you in touch with the right people who are within your locality. Remember, reports from your GP and specialists (for example, relating to your anxiety) can all be photocopied and used to support your application. Alternatively pop their contact details down on the form and DWP can make contact - it's always worthwhile checking with your potential 'contacts' that they'd support your application first. I'd love to be able to tell you that you'd definitely get it renewed, but nothing is certain. AS is a neurological life-long disorder and doesn't just disappear. People can learn to cope/deal with it and learn how to handle difficult or challenging situations, so it may appear to others that 'oh, X is cured'. That's nonsense basically. In my experience of my son, whilst he may learn to cope with something that's difficult for him, just as he overcomes something, something else replaces it! Best wishes. Caroline. KezT Report post Posted March 13, 2010 My best advice is get some help with filling in the form. Most CAB offices are very experienced in this and will make an appointment to go through it with you (so you don't have to wait for ages), or if you have a local DIAL office or something similar they often help too. ilovelife Report post Posted March 13, 2010 Thanks for your response, I have saved my copy of the form on a memory stick. I shall contact CAB nearer the time but last time I rang NAS line which helped greatly with how to word the sections. I don't think my disability is cured it affects me every day and like you have said once you have leart one thing, something else appears. And also from my exerience cetain changes can make you go backwards and vic versa with stability I grown and get confident. I am currently at uni so I shall get them to supply evidence and also my boyfriend provides alot of support. Waiting to see a psychatrist but that is a long story if you have a dual-diagnosis!
