justine1 Report post Posted May 18, 2010 We went to CAMHS today,it was a waste of time really. She just went over my concerns and then she said she cant help as he appears to be ASD and I need to get a dx from the Paed who dx'd Sam.I have already got a referral for that but she said she will push for Dan to be seen in two weeks. She did observe him and said she believes he has ASD.She also said he needs speech therapy. She said its likely the paed will refer us onto other specialist within their centre that can help him.So UNLIKELY to go to CAMHS again!!!! winston Report post Posted May 19, 2010 I was really hoping to read something more positive from you today, firstly because I read your earlier post and hoped you would get somewhere with this, secondly because we are waiting for a CAHMS appointment ourselves for ds and really dont know what to excpect. Hopefully you will hear soon about an appointment with the paed.

Hopefully you will hear soon about an appointment with the paed. Hi Your area may work differently and may be able to help you more. The lady we saw is a play therapist therefore cannot actually give a dx,she can help with emotional well being either just with the child or us as a family.I am quite interested in this but she has said they have different programmes to suit different needs and have an actual programme to suit ASD kids so that is why they cannot help as she needs to know where they stand. She said that he is likely to get all the services from the other centre if he does have ASD. We have an actual child develpoment centre with paediatritions who diagnose various condtions,it also has physio and speech therapy attached. So I guess if you dont have one of these special centres and you referred to CAMHS you may get a diagnosis from them.I am glad to be going to the same paed who dx'd my other son as it will save me explaining my whole life story all over again!I also know what to expect from the appointments. I am sure you will get asked the same things I did, which was how he was as a baby until how he is now.My concerns and how he affects us a family.Good luck. justine1 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 Just an update...I received the letter from CAMHS and I am happy with everything she put about Dan,she mentions his eating and sleeping habits and what school said about him. She then wrote what she observed, when we arrived he kicked off cause the paper kept falling on the floor and he wanted the table to himself to draw on.Also she saw how the noise level of Sam and Dan together can get quite bad and how he interrupted my older son three times when we were talking. So I hope the paediatrcian appt will come through end of next week.
