choc- cake recipe for bored, housebound kids!

Recommended Posts

Found this on the internet the other day and my son had a go at it this afternoon. Very nice, either as a cake or as a choc sponge pud!

Five minute chocolate mug cake.

(the recipe suggests making this in a big mug - but we used an old 1/2pt xmas pudding pot, or you could use a cereal bowl, 'cos it would need to be a very big mug!)

4 tablespoons flour (Doves farm GF self raising in our case)

4 " " " caster sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk (soya in our case)

3 tablespoons cooking oil

3 tablespoons choc chips (optional, but we had some D/F plain ones so did!)

A couple of drops of vanilla extract if you have it.

Bung all the dry ingredients into a microwavable cup/bowl/pot (see above).

Add the egg and mix thoroughly, then pour in the milk and oil and mix well.

Add the choc chips and/or vanilla if you've got 'em, mix again, then bung in microwave for about 3 minutes (800-1000w)

DONE!

The recipe says 'for one' but you'd have to be a right hog! Ours made a decent sized pud for us both tonight with a splash of soya dream cream, and there's still another half for the boy tomorrow, so you can safely say 2 - 3 or maybe 4 at a push.

Better yet, it really is one the kids can do completely for themselves just so long as they can count to 4 and manage a level tablespoon.

Sounds good!

My son doesn't really like chocolate cake - wonder what it's like without the cocoa?

Try bunging some sultanas in instead if he likes those... or dates, or fudge pieces!

Justine - it's a piece of cake!
