Disabled Student Allowance

Recommended Posts

My son starts college this September to do his A Levels and am wondering if anyone else has had any success with this Disabled Student Grant thing.

Just interested as to whether its worth applying for or not.

According to the calculator on the DWP website, he could be eligible for just short of 2.5k but wondering how realistic this is before I start trawling through tons of paperwork.

Any advice is appreciated....many thanks

Yes, I am sure this is only for university students.

It's also not a cash payment. They assess your needs and provide you with equipment.

Yeah this is only for when applying for university, along with student finance, it's in case extra funding or facilities etc. are required for any special needs.

Hi

My uni arranged and LEA paid for my Assessment over £400 in my first year.

I’ve got some equipment:

desktop PC

scanner

speller

dictation machine

special software -5 or 6 application

4 years fortnightly (because I was a P/t student ) I had one-to-one tuition support and then weekly during my dissertation year

my library loan was twice longer and I had 10 more items then other students

annual allowances:

printing £50

books £75

stationeries( printing paper & cartridges) £50

I’ve chosen to disclose my disability to my school & tutors and there were adjustments like a special room with PC & 25% of additional time for my exams

My tutors were my rocks and I count my blessings for meeting such wonderful, dedicated, inspirational professionals and kind, lovely, intelligent people.
