Every year thousands of families struggle with the complex SEN system. Understanding the relevant legal rights and duties is crucial if a family is seeking to secure the right education for their child.

For more than 25 years, IPSEA has been giving families free, independent and legally based SEN/D advice and support. As budgets are tightened, demand for our specialist help is higher than ever.

In response to this demand, IPSEA has designed another way of helping parents secure the right education for their child with SEN/D. On IPSEA's website home page, under "How we can help", there is a link to our new Information Service (as well as our existing services).

How does IPSEA's Information Service work?

  • IPSEA's new Information Service is email based
  • Fills gap between searching the web & calling for advice
  • Parents complete a short on-line form
  • This forms tells us what information they need
  • An IPSEA worker replies by email within 3 working days
  • The email reply has relevant information attached

What information can this service provide?

IPSEA will send you up-to-date information about:

  • The legal rights of parents
  • The legal rights of children
  • The duties of Local Authorities
  • The duties of schools

What is not available via this new service?

IPSEA's Information Service does not offer:

  • Advice on individual situations (parents need to call IPSEA's advice line on 0800 018 4016 for advice on their own situation)
  • Information about tribunal appeals (parents need to call IPSEA's tribunal helpline on 0845 602 9579 for this)
  • The option of contacting IPSEA by email

Next Steps

IPSEA wants to support more parents. We want parents to understand the SEN/D law that is relevant to their situation. We want to keep parents informed about relevant changes and developments. Please will you consider doing the following to help?
