  1. I have 2 teenagers one with asd (late diagnosis). I was wondering if anybody has had Family Therapy suggested to them as help it has been suggested by CP who has done psyco education and anxiety work now looking a t this. If so did it help/
  2. I am going to request a Stat assessment, but I also know that they will say there is nothing wrong with my son at school as academically doing ok but below average in most subjects. I know that will happen, as it has been stated to me for the past year by the SENCO, which is why I had enough and had a private EP assess and was diagnosed moderate dyslexic and moderate dysgraphia (as this was taken off him at High School when primary stated SpLD). Haven't sent the school a copy of report yet wondering whether I should first, and request a meeting. Thing is I have been fobbed off too much over the years and I trust no one in education as they lie. He was diagnosed dyspraxic years ago, sensory processing disorder and had issues in reading, writing. spelling which was targeted on primary SA+ IEPs. He more recently has got a diagnosis of asd, I don't know were about's on the spectrum, but they have stated borderline for years and after an ados recently given the diagnosis. This was also after a so called first assessment, so asked for a second opinion. We haven't completed an adir, 3di, disco to my knowledge, but a ccc2 and have been under SALT and Paeds since little. I don't feel that they think his needs are great. He has increasing anxiety, school refusal on and off and also has sleeping issues in settling and waking up. More recently discussing killing himself when things don't work out. He is also under Clinical Psychology. I was wondering what the whole process is after you send in everything, and also what do I state his issues as, do I just list them or state how they affect him at home. I have a strong feeling they will not assess as I was told dyslexic tendencies by LEA EP years ago but never assessed despite requests, and he was on SA+ at primary till it went to SA in year 6 without discussion with me. Should I also request his full educational file? In High School he is on SA with 1 Target for SLCN (also haven't had a review and had to push for a meeting in first term were I was told there was nothing wrong with him and no diagnosis, until OT told her she was wrong) and I was told he had no diagnosed issues despite being diagnosed with dyspraxia, sensory processing and auditory issues, SLCN. Also what happens in an appeal ? Who is present and what happens I ask this as I don't know if I can proceed without legal help, as I gave evidence in a court case which was quite distressing and don't know if I could face the same scenario. I will send all reports I have, is there a time limit on reports e.g. in age.
  3. No worries we have only officially just got the diagnosis most recently and having the ados revealed everything we stated were indeed issues (but suspected/known for years). SALT have worked loads with him over the years and I know they do loads of work booklets, courses for parents to attend. I also know there are autism parent courses called early bird for a young diagnosis and cygnet older children if it still runs we might go on. Literealness has been an issue in our household for years and still is x It does help when others see it, I've had depression on and off for years and made to feel it was me just seeing it. But when everyone in the family sees it and he has run out of school and had some issues there then it isn't the case. Its about supporting your child and the family as a whole Take Care ;-) xo
  4. Hi I didn't want to read and leave. I have just recently joined. I have a 12 year old who meltdowns and I know how hard it as from my point of view. My DS looses it and any way of coping is his "fight or flight" response. I also do remember when he was younger similar age of your child it seemed relentless and there seemed nothing I could do. Over time I learnt to give him his space, validate his feelings and console him when he needed it, massage him when OT suggested. I learnt over time some triggers provided sensory toys and encouraged him to retreat to his room when needed. Has anyone suggested social stories or visual aids for the literalness of "I got you nose", is SALT doing any work regarding literalness? I don't know if you are on facebook but I have also found this site very useful Autism Discussion Page it has slides discussing various aspects. x
  5. Has been under SALT and Paediatrics since age 3 still see's them. OT since Yr 3 still sees them and LEA EP seen since Yr 2-5. Due to ignorance of High School we had a private EP assessment and report done for High School recently which I will be sending in September. EP couldn't get involved with the asd side as the NHS assessment was occurring, as he was already back to asd panel he has also been discussed several times over past few years. I think because he is just below average or average in some subject areas then they state he is ok. Yet his dyslexia disappeared from primary to secondary wish it was that easy! We tend to get most of the issues at home but they have been seen elsewhere. Thanks will look in education.
  6. Hi I have 2 children my youngest has just been diagnosed asd after a lengthy time of waiting and concerns being ignored. He is also diagnosed with dyspraxia, sensory processing disorder, social anxiety. The anxiety slowly started 2 years ago and is getting worse affecting school attendance and sleep etc. Recently privately assessed as moderate dyslexic and dysgraphia as High School stated he no longer had these issues (as was SpLD on IEPS at primary). Presents as fine at school so I am told but I hear of some issues and there has been past issues in primary e.g. running off of site, refusing both primary and secondary. He is on SA at school which I don't agree with was moved down from SA+ without my knowledge in yr 6, especially in light of recent diagnosis. Just want to learn more and be able to talk to others as is quite hard work. x
