  1. BRILLIANT

One last thing boss :notworthy: do you think we could have it in red........ p l e a s e?

Unfortunately thats a no! Due to the way that the Jargon Buster link is produced I cant insert the necessary code to turn the text red. Sorry.

If I think of a way then I'll let you know though.

    Krisx

  2. The Jargon Buster is up and running again :)

See the top right of each page (next to Help)

    Kris

    Lufty,

It has lots of important information for new members, especially benefit info., some people don't find out about this for years.

I'm sure you and Kris will do your very best.

Many many thanks for all your hard work.

    Nellie xx

  3. Have a large vodka and lemonade on me and we'll say no more about it :) Seriously, I thought it was a great poem as well. Kris

    hello everyone

you are ALL fantastic people, each and every one of you.

I have really enjoyed getting involved in this forum

    however

i now feel a guilty and have a huge confession to make

When i came back on to the forum to wish everyone happy xmas, i actually came on under the name, 'anonymous and nameless' as well

and poseted the poem 'Friends' wich i had written as i was feeling a bit down.

I don't know why i did not post it as myself, I think i was afraid of just coming back and appearing to be looking for sympathy. I don't even know why i posted it either as it was rather depressing. and was not great anyway. I think i wanted to espress how i was feeling, but was afraid of doing that as me, and it was easyer to pretend i was someone else.

I do feel a lot better and happyer now

and regret not posting as myself, I now feel guilty for posting as someone else.

I am afraid of posting this confession, because i have no idea how everyone will react

    But i had to confess

everyone on here has been so kind to me and i really appreciate it

    i am very sorry

    SD x

  4. how do i get the quote bit to work?i keep trying but no luck, remember im not good on computers,so as simply as poss please!!

Just hit the Reply button which is at the bottom right hand side of each message box. This will quote the original sender in your message.

Give that a try. If it fails then just tell us exactly what you are doing and we'll try and spot the error.

    Cheers,

    Kris

  5. Was trying to find SEN forums through a google search when researching for my dissertation. I remember typing in loads of differnt combinations of search terms via Google UK. I cannot remember though which term I typed in that led me here. Whilst my research questionnaire was running I had a page with the better SEN links I found listed including Krism (the page is still there and the address for this site has been changed to the new one).

Also, as many of you know I am active on the Times Ed website. I will often point people this way as it is simply the best UK based ASD forum that there is! Word of mouth is one of the best ways of spreading the word about this forum and I do so on the net and in person.

It will take a while before the old KRISM address dissapears from all the various search engines. Hopefuly it will dissapear at the same rate that the new name is working its way into the search engines :)

  6. It cant be moved down any further unfortunately. We'll have to see if we can have some of the bottom border trimmed off.

Looking at the image itself we wont be able to trim the bottom at all. So that only leaves the option of increasing the box that it sits in a little bit to better centre the logo. I'll take a look at this later, going to brave the shops now :)

  7. Christmas has been going really well, or it was until I developed a dental abscess.. I think I got a bit of seasonal chestnut trapped between gum and tooth.. and of course it flaired up as soon as doctor and dentist went skiiing for the week. My dentist isn't back til Tues and I woke up boxing day in pain and tenderness. Called out of hours dentist who said cold compact and take something for pain, ie paracetomol or ibuprofen.. no joy, couldn't sleep, totally agony, swelling in gum began and I knew I needed more than a cold compress to last the week. Managed to get son to come with me to A&E after being told to go to emergency dentist by NHS direct. Bless, my son really doesn't understand or empathise at all with my situation, but he managed to sit in A&E with me behaving impeccably for over 2 hours!

Got in to see dentist and I wanted him to drain it? to relieve the pressure but instead he just gave me amoxycillan? anti biotics.. so spent another sleepless night in absolute agony taking nurofen and paracetomol as often as allowed.. then began the downhill climb.. antibiotics not yet kicking in- feel flu like, face and neck and tongue have continued to swell up and pain killers my own gp have given me only take the edge of for max an hour, then have 3 to wait in sobbing pain til redosing. codeine/ paracetamol and diclofenic.. I feel like such a wuss.. I am hoping the antibiotics will work eventually as my throat so swollen and jaw so stiff I have taken to communicating with pen, paper and charades... fortunately my son prefers this to the verbal method- silent nagging...

Does anyone know if I can have alcohol to help my pain relief? or if this is against the effectiveness of the antibiotics? I don't care if the only reason is I might feel loopy with painkillers.. I just need a better pain relief to help me off to sleep.. :tearful: ..A friend of mine brought over a few cans of stella artois, or I have a couple tiny bottles of snowball I could happily drink? Anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't? TIA.

    Hiya,

I do sympathise as I had much the same thing myself a few weeks ago. I couldnt eat or sleep for ages.

The Doc gave me antibiotics and the dentist took the tooth out when the infection had gone down. Amoxycillin didnt even begin to touch it. The Doc had to give me something much stronger but with both the message was the same "Dont Drink"

I know the feeling of waiting for the next 4 hours to end so you can take more painkillers :(

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Kris

  8. While I agree with you on a lot of points, Auriel, I feel I ought to justify the new logo:

"Then there is the redesign. What was wrong with the old one. This one is more sharper, the title font more soul-less, unlike the freindly words of the last board. And a seemingly random squidly thing above the words?!"

The title font came about because i was trying to recreate the original, but there wasn't the space to make it 2 lines without it being too small to read (being white on mid blue). This meant that it had to be a narrow font and bold to be legible. I wanted to use a font closer to Democratica or The Nightmare Before xmas, but as there are several dyslexic members, it seemed a tad unfair. Finally I've only just got this computer and there aren't nearly enough fonts installed yet :crying:

As for the random squidly thing, it's a celtic knot, one of my personal obsessions - it's a graphical representation of a number (the fractals of the Dark Ages), it's a form of meditation, and it seemed an appropriate symbol for the interconnection of the members of the forum. The reason it's in rainbow colours was partially to represent the autistic spectrum, but mostly to give back some colour and life to a site that had been clinically chilled by the removal of virtually all colour except gun-metal blues. Colour psychology predicts that this will make the site less lively and optimistic; it will be interesting to see if the forum members will be able to resist.

It has been said before elsewhere that there are other skins available for these boards. Maybe there could be a poll for the favourite skin?

    nemo

    Thanks for explaining that,

I will look into the prospect of new Skins for the site. They are out there but will require work to get them site ready. It also increases the amount of work that myself and Lufty have to do when we make technical changs to the forum so we will need to talk about it.

Hopefully we can provide some though. Fingers crossed.

    Kris

  9. I just logged on and a box popped up with PM's in it, I didn't get the red notification thingy at the top like I used to. Is this a new thing, do I have to check my PM box to see if I have any? I didn't know I had any messages so I must seem very rude.

    Viper.

    Hiya,

The PM box should have appeared when you got a PM. I have to admit I'm not as impressed with the PM notification box as I was with the old forum software. I'll see if Lufty and I can find a decent replacement.

Anyone else seen a problem with PM notifications?

    Kris

  10. Hi Auriel,

Sorry you dont like the changes. I will attempt to explain but apologise in advance if you disagree with the reasons surrounding the changes.

    Image Posting

This is disabled on this forum (although at present this appears to be working - I will investigate). The reasons behind this are simple. The forum deals mostly with children, this is not by design but due to the people that are members i.e mainly parents of young children.

Any website/forum/chat room that deals with young people must employ a certain level of protection to ensure that it's members are safe and secure and that certain elements of our community aren't given a home for their activities.

Disabling images means that no member can post an image that might or would be seen as offensive or possibly inadvertantly become an advert for undesirable elements.

Whilst we accept that the vast majority of our members are beyond reproach it must be remembered that we operate a public forum, publicly accessible on a public internet service. We must employ safe surfing techniques and encourage others to do so.

    Forum Rules

The forum rules ALWAYS existed under the topic 'Forum Rules' on the General Discussion category. They also existed in the forum guidelines. The only difference now is that they appear at the top of each category in order to allow easy access. If we removed them then other members might well complain that (if they broke a rule) it was because we hid the rules so well that they couldnt be found! We cant win so we have to ensure that the rules are visible to all and easily accessible for viewing.

    New Forum Design

The is due mainly to the fact that we are now using new forum software which has a different look and feel. I can understand some members will feel a little awkward using the new software but members will get used to it in time and will probably forget how the old forum used to look.

We could expend a huge amount of time getting the new forum to look exactly like the old forum but we just dont have the time.

The logo was designed by one of our forum members (in response to a competition topic) in an attempt to generate a more branded feel to the forum so that members had a logo as well as a name to relate to. I'm happy to say that (based on the emails and PM's that we have got) quite a few members like the new logo.

    New Categories

The 'Off Topic' category was in response to member demand. It will be merged back if the user demand for this is such. The 'Techie Corner' category will no doubt be removed when everything has settled down from the move.

    New Domain Name (ASD-Forum)

There are two reasons behind this:-

    1. Is to make the forum more professional. I know that this is an arguable point.

    2. And the main reason is that I WANT MY DOMAIN BACK AGAIN :)

The forum was created using some spare webspace that I had lying around under my own domain name (krism.org.uk) Elefan and myself could never have dreamed that the forum would grow so large so fast. Neither could we have guessed that krism (or krismites etc) would have become a household name amongst so many. Had we been setting up the forum from scratch again, we would not have used krism. With the move to a new service providor came the opportunity to correct this.

The name may have changed but it's still the same forum with the same members.

    ... and finally

Your points are certainly very valid and no doubt shared by others. I hope I have been able to provide insights to some of your points.

Change is always a difficult thing to manage. Most people (AS or otherwwse) do not always respond well to change however, from time to time change is necessary.

Please always keep the suggestions coming but please remember that we are never going to be able to keep all the people happy all the time. We will do our best though.

    Regards,

    Kris

  11. Just thought of something else....

Do you have a 'scroll wheel' on your mouse?

If So, then, Press CTRL at the same time as 'scrolling' your mouse wheel. Does this change your font size?

Sounds like all the most likely suggestions are already gone.

If you right click on the desktop, then choose properties

    Click on the 'Appearance' tab

Does the Font size say normal? If not then it should do.

If this is ok then click on the 'Settings' tab and have a look at your screen resolution. Try setting it to 800x600 and see if that is any better.

    Kris

  12. SM, I feel much more comfy now knowing Elefan is not waiting to assassinate me  I bet Lufty is good looking though ;) SSSShhhhhhhhhhh don't tell Elefan I said that will you.

I won't sign my name then she wont know who I am

Ooooh, I'm so tempted to post here, but I'll leave that to Elefan :)

    Kris

  13. How many threads are closed off after they've been inactive for two days.

There were plenty of moderators posts on that thread. The last few posts had been well within the T&Cs, so why close it off now?

Anyway I have no intention of labouring the point.

That particular topic was not closed because it had been inactive for two days. Please read the topic and (as a moderator yourself) you may understand exactly why it was closed, and you will obviously not be aware of the background PM's and Emails on this particular subject.

There is no such thing as a Krism approved view and I am very dissapointed that you (as a longer term member and regular poster) would say that! As moderators and admins we reserve the right to moderate any topic as we see fit. Active moderation is one of the reasons that the forum is so popular. We will continue to do this where and if necessary although hopefully the 'necessity' will be few and far between.

You wont always understand why, sometimes you will have to accept that we have our reasons. As an example, we are also currently dealing with a major commercial company who have taken exception to the use of one of their product names on this forum (from topics posted months ago) - So you can see the kind of things we have to deal with. As a moderator yourself I'm sure that you will understand.

    Kris

  14. Well I approve of the changes, particularly the upgraded forum software, even if the aesthetics still need a bit of touching-up (which of course you're gradually dealing with anyway, in part through the logo competition). And I, too, was very impressed with the speed at which it was all achieved. :) Amazed, in fact!!

So ... I'm Scottish then, if I'm "Ben Nevis". :D Gotta beat being a Lieutenant, as I was briefly, anyway. ;)

It would be nice to be able to post with all the smilies in the box visible, without having to scroll up, down, left and right to see some of them. That's a bit of a hassle that didn't used to exist.

Still no sign of it! :P

    James

Nope, but it's still on the list :)

  15. Canopus

At least we know where your recent wild ideas about 'Council Estate people' and demographic changes came from.

There is nothing in the article that I disagree with but it is a re-hash and re-spin of what has been in the papers for the last few weeks rather than an original piece of work.

We should not have links to the BNP web site on the forum. This site is assocuated woth tolerance and respect, not the odius aims of an organisation like the BNP.

I am going to drop off this form for a while now to calm down, but I am VERY uncomfortable that this thread is being used to promote the BNP as much as it is to promote the views in the article, and I would find it vey hard to stay a member this forum if stays there with the links intact.

    Simon

    All

I have removed the links to the BNP which have no place on this forum. I do however understand that the article in itself is not in anyway offensive and therefore will not remove this thread (just the link)

If you require the link then please PM the original poster.

I hope you understand my position on this.

    Regards,

    Kris
