  1. We have a badge "I am in my own little world..but it's OK because they know me there" It sums dd up perfectly. I was very cautious about the badges for many of the previously outlined reasons, however dd had to stay in hospital recently (entirely unconnected to her asd) and the Drs kept shouting in her face (a la children tv presenter style) to get her to respond to them...she was so traumatised she didn't make eye contact or speak for about 3 weeks after. I find the badge does stop this over animation which some people think will help. Emma
  2. Thanks for the link..it is brilliant to know we aren't alone..we are still quite new to this and don't know any other autistic children. emma
  3. dd begins reception in September and I am dreading it. School have been very supportive while she has been in nursery, and we have made her a pictoral timetable with photos of all the areas, met her teacher etc... but her main obsession is clothing related, she only wears stripes or tinkerbell outfits. We have bought school uniform and I have persuaded her to wear it for 2 minutes, after which time she ripped it off and had to wear a tutu to help herself recover , but while school are understanding, they want her to wear uniform, and have said that if she isn't wearing it she has to take it with her. I can see her refusing to wear it and being really stressed at having it around...generally if you try to interfere with her obsessions they get more and more difficult. We are just going through statementing at the moment, should I mention it and does anyone have any tips on dealing with it? We did buy a tinkerbell badge for the pinafore but she wasn't convinced Emma
  4. Hi My name is Emma and I have a 4 year old daughter , Sally who is currently being assessed and monitored for communication and social difficulties . They aren't committing themselves to a diagnosis yet as her comprehension is no measurable on any scale yet, but it has been suggested that she go to a specialist AS unit attached to a mainstream primary. We are currently going through the statementing process, and it has been alarmingly fast...in fact we feel quite unprepared to write our report yet, but are cobbling something together. We haven't had any real help yet except some speech therapy, and we are designing a visual timetable and little book for Sally to explain reception and school to her...has this been successful for anyone else? Emma
