  1. Hi Pippin, so sorry, some people will never "get it" unfortunately, we had a neighbour who hired a "party bus" parked it where you could see the thing right out our front window. She did come the day before to tell us about and explain why she couldnt invite our son because of "health and safety" I'm a wimp but I laughed at her and said DS wouldnt have come anyway we were going out-she said it'd be gone by 5. We werent going out but had to then, came back at 6pm-it was still there!!!

Was livid, but then an hour later she knocked on the door with a party bag! U can only take so much-told her what to do with her bag and never knock on my door again-hee hee, felt good.

I would think of the coolest thing for your son and spoil him!! Hugs, Marion >:D<<'>

  2. Hi Kelly and welcome, I only found this site a few months ago and without being overdramatic it's changed my life-the people have been so helpful, it's great not to feel so alone, there are people out there coping with the same things we are.Hope it's the same for you, Marion

  3. Hi, does anyone on the forum home educate?

Been to hell and back-yes feelin a wee bit desperate-soz-with school, spent 3 years trying to get them to understand and help DS who just can't cope with no support-we tried to get a statement and failed, mostly because the headteacher attended the tribunal and sais DS was coping fine! He holds it together in school and then has huge violent meltdowns at home.

First day back he was in bits, said he couldnt go -it was too hard.He hasnt been in since.Feel like we've come to the end of the line and will eventually have no choice, been signed off work with stress but need to work to pay the bills! Am I doing the right thing taking him away from the stress? Any advice gratefully received,Maz.

  4. Hi Marion,

" if there is evidence that your child is being adversely affected at school by his disabilities then the school is obligated to take some measures to support him. Is he on School action or School Action plus at the moment? If so, what does he currently receive support-wise?

DS was on School Action plus but only because they had the specialist autism teacher in (at my request) to advise them. Because, I presume, of her case load and school saying he doesnt present them with any problems, she say him once and discharged him, he is now on school action. The only support he receives is from the classroom assistant who helps the whole class.Am at the end of my tether, wondering if they want him to leave as I cant believe they can ignore his problems like this, thanks Marion

  5. Hi,

just had ds school report , he's been at the school for 3 years and we've struuggled the whole time to get them to understand he needs help and support, they just dont get it and I feel its all my fault because I cant get them to understand........ds has Aspergers, dyspraxia, severe dyslexia and situation inattentive hyperactivity disorder, we have no statement as "school dont see he has a problem"-he holds it together most of the time at school but this is affecting his mental health.

Went to tribunal-we live in an area with very little help- to try to get a statement and had the LEA and the headteacher against us-we lost.

Anyway, spent years talkin tryin, buyin them books etc and just got his report.....

"A must make sure that he works and behaves well for all staff that work in school" eh?

"A must consider the content of his writing as he can be inclined to include references to wrestlers which reduces the overall quality of his work"

"He needs to have secure written methods of both multiplication and division. He tends to work fairly slowly in assessment situations. He must remember to estimate, calculate and check but also work at speed"

"He must ensure that he writes down what he has found out as his work can often lack detail"

"he must make sure he remains focused"

"his written work is often incomplete due to lack of focus"

"could include more detail in written work, target in yr6?"

"he must ensure he stays focused in order to complete the task"

A is very easily distracted in lessons and unfortunately hasn't made the progress he is capable of"

Can anyone tell me truthfully-is it me?!

To me this shows a child who needs support, these people are teachers, do they think they can't still learn? Feel like am banging my head against a brick wall, used to be a smoker, just gone and bought some!!DH livid but what can we do, sorry to go on but would welcome any guidance.regards, Marion

  6. No not alone, keep thinkin is it really worth the hassle, they say you should never stay anywhere that's not at least as nice as your own house!!

Take Dettox, send them all to explore and scrub it down-have been known to put wheelie bin liners top and bottom of the mattresses-paranoid yes,but much more at ease, hee hee!!

Take lots of wine, hope u enjoy it, Marion

  7. Thanks so much to everyone who replied, its not feeling so lonely here now!

Bit of a disaster with secondary school, my son is in school with 2 yr5 classes of 20 in each, contacted the secondary school to talk to the SENCO about secondary to be told that as the catchment areas have changed and my son wont get in!! If he had a statement....but of course he doesnt!

We bought our house in a dfferent village from school (but then it was in the catchment area) thinking it would be best-if he had problems at school it would't follow him home!! Feel totally useless, can't seem to do anything right, 39 kids going to the seconday school, Andrew having to go elsewhere, he couldnt cope, we'll apply, appeal etc but it's never-ending hassle isnt it, thanks again all, hope the sun shines and you have a great weekend, Marion

  8. Can anyone help? My Asperger's son age 10 is desperate to be NT, works so hard at school to keep it together , school "don't have a problem" with him as he loves the headmaster and most of the teachers and desperately wants to please, but the sheer effort is seriously damaging his mental health. I pick him up at 3.15 and cant speak to him til at least 4 o'clock, his anxiety levels are so high, as soon as he gets to his "safe place" -home -we have huge meltdowns, smashing things, self harming, violence and serious "I wish I was dead" depression. School dont understand at all!! But they dont see it...

We have no statement, tried, but unless school support you its hopeless, it's a case of "forgive them father..." they dont understand, its hard to sit in a support group meeting next to people with kids who have 30, 35 hours 1-1 support.....but anyway...

I really do want my son's headmaster and some of the teachers to understand the mental stress my son is under on a day to day basis, I'm sure I read a really good article somewhere that explained that its typical that some AS kids display completely different behaviour at home and school but dont know where- can anyone help?

The only answer from the experts is to home educate- might have to eventually to reduce the stress -but he really wants to be in school-most of the time!!

PS New here, hello all, thanks in advance,Marion.
