    hi,

     

    i just thought that i'd mention that Connor has to do his sats this year and because the school know of his problems and what could happen they have come to certain arrangements for him.

     

    He doesn't have to sit with all the other children doing the test he is going to a room on his own with a TA

     

    A clock will be set for the length of the exam but it can be turned of as many times as Connor feels he need so he can run around the playground if nessesary or even just to have a bit of time out then restarted again when he is ready.

     

    the TA will be able to read the question to him to help him understand them.

     

    it might be worth mentioning your fears to the teacher and then maybe you could come up with some simular plans for your son.

    Hi Karen,

     

    Connor got a dx of selective mutism when he was 4 from his speech and language therapist and he got his ASD dx in Nov - apparently his S&L problems are nothing to do with the ASD and if he hadn't have had them he would have been dx AS but she couldn't do that because as im sure you are aware with AS you dont have S&L problems even though his wern't related to the ASD.

    its really funny you mentioned this because i have done exactually the same!! when Connor was dx in Nov i just couldn't get my head round it i knew he had ADHD but as for ASD i thought "well he's just the same as i am" I am now undergoing evaluation myself .

     

    This then led me to evaluate all the family and one of my other sons defo has traits (has been dx) and my with my husband i wouldn't be suprised if he was on the spectrum either.

     

    When i mentioned all this to my mum she said well that's what i'm like aswell! so for fun both my mum and i took an online assesment and both got high scores so who knows

     

    One thing i do know is that if my son hadn't been dx then i wouldn't have looked no further and just excepted that thats the way i am it's normal to me as i have lived with it all my life
