  1. T has been asked yet again to go for his Diph, Tet, Polio Reinforcing injection. He is petrified of needles, last time they took blood we had to go to the hospital. It took 5 nurses to hold him down and take blood, now he will NEVER have it done again. It was horrific and in the end I cried as it upset me so much.

What can be done, no one seems to care or know what to do. How can it possibly be right to forcibly hold a 13 year old down and put him through a terrible time? Has anyone got any clues on where to start and any experiences?

  2. It's my guess that the LEA-preferred school have come back to them and said they can't meet his needs. Schools will expand when an outside LA are willing to pay as it's not coming out of the school's LA's purse. I know of a school that has expanded from 75 to 100 pupils in this way. It borders another LA and it is just about a 'shared' school now.

There is a lot of politics going on in the background, another school a few miles away were offered the expansion and the school we want our son to go to wasn't! The school can 100% meet his needs as I've been there and it is fantastic. The reason they don't want him is their children in the borough come first then out of borough come second. Which is funny as they have 2 children from my borough currently at that unit! It's an LEA issue and they are warring with my borough, it is unfair as my son needs a place and this is it.

His last school was out of borough too!!!

It's just the way my borough worded it about the additional place baffles me. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up as it'll be a tribunal in the end as always!

  3. Basically T has been out of school since March as his old one constantly neglected him, resulting in a sexual assault on a school trip to France. In other words EBD+ASD= disaster!

Well our LEA has asked the school we want in another LEA for a place, they have said they are full. They have asked again "formally" (waste of time and paper) and they wrote back and formally said no. Now they sent us a letter saying

"It is felt that the provision in the above named school will meet T's needs and in accordance with the SEN code pf practice for Wales, section 8.63, C****** LEA is formally consulting you regarding his admission in September 2009 and is willing to purchase an additional place at ***** school.

I would appreciate further consideration of the Authority's request and i would be grateful if the second proposed amended statement could be forwarded to the school"

Now this "communication disorder base" is owned by the LEA not the school and only takes 14 children, they say they are full.. My OH seems to think they will pay over the odds to extend it maybe to make it possible for T to go there. I think they might be stating the obvious and saying our LEA will pay your LEA for a place but sprucing it up so to speak.

What do you think, it's soooo stressing me out! We are going to appeal for this place, our LEA are naming an inappropriate school in their LEA which I went to see again. It has a great ASD base but goes into mainstream with one TA and 28 mainstream kids, T wouldn't cope at all. The other school does mainstream in an SEN class much smaller size, and they also have 1-1.

  4. They have changed as much as we wanted in the parts 2 and 3 but will only put "enhanced" support instead of 1-1 as he always has in his previous schools. Their reasoning for this is that the school we want will be easier to get?!?!?!

Do you think they are pulling a fast one?

Also they are going to name a school in part 4 which is slightly similar but doesn't meet his needs to go to the tribunal as it's in our/their borough , a school which was thrown out in the last tribunal.. Where do we stand on that?

Also is it true you can write to the tribunal and ask for our case to be heard any quicker due to the horrific circumstances surrounding it? This what the Ed.P said to us, or is this another load of codswallop?

  5. Your mother is reacting like most people, the general public, do to autism, yes they do think of the Victorian asylums, people just siting there all day rocking because that is all they know. They don't see all the people around them that have ASD and are living full lives. There are some people with autism who do live in institutions and they do spend much of their time stimming, I know I work with some of them and it makes me realise how wide the spectrum is.

All you can really do now is educate you mother about Autism, perhaps do the thing of pointing out all the geniuses in history who had/ have Autism.

That is one brilliant post!! :notworthy:

  6. At last after chasing them for almost a week and ringing non stop they have given me a meeting on Thursday!! After five months things are finally (painfully slow) moving.. What annoys me is they are using information from 2005 and he has improved loads in that time and it's very inaccurate, my DH seems to think it doesn't matter as it can be changed when we go to appeal for the school we want.

They have bowed down to loads of our suggestions which I thought they never would !! It's just sooooooo dated, they have their own educational psychologist shouldn't they do an assessment after 4 years???? We had one done by an independent one when we went to tribunal 2 years back but they won't use it.

On a good point we have been given an extra 5 hours a week so 2 hours a day which we thought we'd never get of private tuition.

  7. My son goes out with care workers 5 days a week, social services pay the firm to take him out 3 hours at a time as he isn't in a school.. the downside is they take him to places we can't afford and buy him dinner, on some days it's £10 a day and we can't afford it. I have said to them numerous time I can't afford it, but when I don't have change they plough through the money..

Someone told me that we don't have to pay for this.. is this true?

  8. Must be Wales cos im in the valleys n our lea is a pile of nevermind they are useless....when my son was being bullied n suicidal I went to the lea n they did diddly squit.....moved my son in the end.

bikemad we are trying to get our son into a school in the RCT borough but RCT are refusing, we took T out and have been left with no school and an hour a day tuition sometimes less as the Tutor has doctors appointments some weeks!

  9. szxmum I could have written some of your post, we have the same too. My DH always send me links and phone numbers to call as "I do it better" and says "well I'm in work".. tbh he does type a mean email..

Also my mum saw T attack me last Wednesday after arguing with his sister.. I had blood down my arm as he scrammed me so hard, her solution is "Do it back harder" So I replied what about when he punches and kicks me, could you imagine?!?!?!

I totally sympathise with you.. everyone has an answer and it's usually not thought through!

  10. Spooky or what... just got a call of some woman to do with a the CPS and she is going to get all the paperwork from the police and then call a meeting with us, I won't hold my breath but you never know! I have got in contact with the other parent and her letter is more sympathetic to her daughter as she has EBD, a totally different reply to her!!

  11. In my past posts I said about how my son was sexually assaulted by a 15 year old (not ASD), he also did it to a girl on the same trip twice, and another boy.. The teachers were told and they didn't believe them.. Well a letter came through and they said as T is ASD they can't cross examine him so this boy is back in school as a resident with no sanctions.

The letter the other girl got said that he admitted it and said he was "naughty" and has a final warning! The girl has been pulled out after what he did also as you know my son was pulled out after 2 years of hell.. We are complaining but don't hold out much hope, even the policeman was embarrassed telling us and told us to go to the papers!!!!

  12. Kathryn according to our solicitors Cardiff have the worst LEA in the country and he travels all over the UK. We have been blackmailed (last week), and told (2 years ago) that if he doesn't go to the school they picked "he can just stay home", this was after the tribunal and we won but they were fit to burst so he didn't get into the ASD school!

Then placing my son in "borstal" not under his ASD but saying he had EBD!!!!!!!! Still waiting for a refusal which the LEA had 2 weeks ago as they are stalling as the 6 weeks are almost here.. My caseworker is a total unfeeling robot and gives me one word replies..

I don't know how they sleep at night quite honestly!

  13. I've dealt with them for years and everything is a battle with them, the way they try to "con" you and "trick" you.. For example the other day I was told we'd have to drop the judicial inquiry as they can't do the statement/*look* for a school or go to appeal at the same time as the inquiry and it would take longer

What are your stories of how you have been treated by them?

  14. My son was out for 5 years yes that's right 5 years :o Of course that was a few years ago now. He was 11 when he had a breakdown and he never got back to school. He was in year 11 when my husband said that because we had been un-offically home educating him during the last 5 years that we might as well make it official. he was very cross because during that time the school continued to receive funding for our son. We were offered two unsuitable placements although we did try them both. Had home tuition which was carried out by someone who had no understanding of autism at all and who was an Art teacher (which we had nothing against) but we were quite capable of picking up his school work and bringing it home for him to complete.

    Cat

OMG that's terrible, so you home ed your son now? We just want a school with a unit, it makes me angry that if he was DX properly when he was 7 he wouldn't be going through all of this now!
