  1. Thanks for the welcome. I am very surprised that after almost 24 hours, only ONE person can say hello. I found it hard enough to muster up the will to join. Not really my cup of tea if nobody speaks here. i have that in the real world and don't really need it in cyberspace too. I will look for a site where a little more happens I think.
  2. Can I suggest you start by contacting the National Autistic Sociaety? That is where I started. They gave me the contact details fo the Nottingham Asperger Service (where I live) and they told after a nice chat on the phone, to contact my GP for a referal to them. He was resisitant, but did refer me when I insisted - I didn't know I had that power, but stand your ground politely and they MUST refer you. From there it was a 4 month rtoad to where I am today, having had my formal diagnosis this week by way of my written report. I will be continuing with them because I and they believe there is more to discover and they can help me in some directions, like my hypersensitive taste issues. So, start with the NAS. Tell them it is about AS and they will help.
  3. Hello Eccentric I am brand new here and also brand newly diagosed (officially). I contacted teh NAS (National Autistic Society) who gave me the name and number of my local Asperger service. I spoke with them who referred me to my GP, who didn't want to send me there until I insisted. Ironically, when I said to my GP 'I think I may have Aspergers' he replied with 'Oh, I have no doubt at all'. (In a nice way). I may be out of turn offering advise, but I would ring the NAS first. I am 48 and they helped me.
  4. Hi everyone I thought I would pop in and say hello and introduce myeself. I am 48 and have recently found out I have Aspergers. This may sound odd to say, but I am delighted! The reason being that it suddenly explains so much of my past that till now was not clear. I always knew I felt 'different' and was as clumsy as you like socially to the point I am not social at all. I do not mean I am antisocial in the sense, just I do not socialise. I have physical disabilities, namely arthrits of my spine which is the worst of them. I can walk, but get a lot of pain after a very short time. My first port of call, after doing some online tests and eventually having a formal diagnosis via my LEA, is to start finding out more. I have also joined here so I can hopefully learn and get on with being an Aspie. Anyway, I will stop there for now. I can talk the hind legs of a donkey if allowed, so let me just shut up for a minute and do some reading. Thanks for letting me join. I hope I will be able to contribute wisely as well as listen. James. ps... oh that is odd! Having just posted this I see I am in 'Norfolk Broads!'. I am not, I am in Nottingham. Why does it think I am in Norfolk?
