  1. My 6 year has AS and he has problems getting to sleep. Once he is asleep he does not wake up until morning but it can take 4 hours sometimes for him to drop off. We are trying different things to help but none are working at the moment

    Hello

Hello to both of you. I'm sure I will asking both of you for advice sometime in the future
  3. Thanks everyone, the advice about doing something with the other child is a good one and I'll ask my wife speak to the boys mother tomorrow
  4. My son is in a very small class is a primary school, their are only 6 children in his year. He and one other boy are the only two on the Austic Spectrum and the other parents know this. A lad who my son plays with has a birthday this weekend and you can guess, the only two not invited are my son and the other lad!!! I know its the persons right to invite who they want to a party but this is so obvious that it is hurtful. In a year or two my lad will start to understand that people will treat him differently. One part of me understands the why this happens but it still makes me upset and angry at the same time and it gives some indication of what lies ahead for my son.

    Hello

Hi there I'm Stuart and I'm married too Lisa. I would like to introduce myself and give you a little background info on our situation. We have two sons, my eldest is L aged 6 and has AS, my other son is J and is 4 and is not autistic. L was picked up as being different in pre-school when he was about 3, but the signs were there before hand, unfortunately neither my wife or I knew anything about autism and just thought he was a normal child that liked his own company. My only exposure to autism was like many other people, the film Rainman! L would line toys up, had and still has a great memory (he learnt! the alphabet in two days), walked on tiptoes, would speak in his own little language and play by himself. Looking back now I feel guilty that I did not pick up his condition myself earlier. I'm very thankful to the pre-school worker who picked up L condition as she got the LA involved straight away. We live in Leicestershire and it has taken a while to go through the system to a diagnosis, the LA has been excellent. The term autism was not mentioned until his first parents evening at primary school, and my defences went up straight away, "How dare anybody thing something is wrong with my son, he is fine". But after reading the information on the NAS website I came to terms with it and that I think is a big step for any parent. The school has been fantastic and we are now waiting for a statement which hopefully we can get. My advice to any parent with a child having or being suspected of having AS is to push push push, but be expected for things to move slowly. I would like to offer and advice I can give and will hopefully spend a lot of time on this forum. Stuart
