  1. Couldn't see this anywhere in here. Don't mind me if you've heard this a billion times. Just wondering if anyone had seen any movies about Asperger's or with characters with Asperger's in and how they felt about them. I've recently taken an interest in watching them out of curiosity. So far, I've only watched 'Adam' starring Hugh Dancy. I thought it was quite a sweet movie and could relate to a lot of it, but Adam did seem a little too far towards the 'Rain Man' side of things at times. Speaking if which, I have a movie called 'Mozart and the Whale' to watch which was written by the guy who did 'Rain Man'. Not watched it yet.
  2. The biggest film he's done is probably The Bourne Ultimatum. He's the reporter who Bourne has to get out of Waterloo station. He was one of the snarky cops in Hot Fuzz too. He's one of those guys who does mostly big roles in smaller films. Stuff like Dead Man's Shoes and In America had magazines throwing around the old "He's the new Robert De Niro!" phrase. Even though film magazines seem to pick someone every couple of months to be the new De Niro, he is actually ace.
  3. Thanks for that. I never saw it when it came out. He's an amazing actor and it's really brilliant of him to just come out and say he has it. I imagine most actors would never even mention something like this. As someone who would love to work in the film industry, it's a great boost to hear about Mr. Considine being able to be so successful despite his difficulties.
  4. North Wales, it seems, is not the place to be. Got called in to see my GP as he'd had a letter off the local mental health people. Due to cuts in funding, they don't have the man power to assess me. Ever. They did give me a phone number for a local support group, but I could've found that on Google really. The GP, who was very nice about it all, then went on to tell me about how it might not be Aspergers anyway. As I'm starting Uni this year, I've not got the money to go private. Bit annoying, but I'll just keep on doing the GF/CF diet thing and lurking about online for advice. I feel loads better about everything being able to read about it and this diet's magic. At least now I don't have to drag the parents in for a reference!
  5. Glad to hear you managed to overcome some pretty annoying-sounding hurdles. Thanks for sharing too. I've just been to my GP to start a diagnosis process myself. (I went once about 2 months ago, but the GP - a different one to this time - just gave me a print-out of AS symptoms, sent me on my way, and said he'd talk to his psychiatrist friends about it. Not heard anything off him since, the swine!) I made a list and everything this time - I made one last time, but I was too embarrassed to mention it. The GP asked me to read it out, so of course I just grinned and handed it to her. After much mumbling, she kept my list and said I'd hear something in the post about a referral. My first thought on leaving was "I've made a terrible mistake" and how I'm imagining everything and I'm gonna look silly and even if I have it then I can just deal without a diagnosis and so on and so forth. I'm sure I'll be glad I did it once this embarrassment wears off. At least I can stop umming and arring about it now. The only thing that worries me is that my list is a bit vague in places because I intended to talk through it with the GP. I basically copied the Triad of Impairments bit from the NAS site and put examples of my bits in brackets. Some dude might just look at it and go "He's just copied this off the website!" Never mind. Fingers crossed!
  6. Hey, thanks! That sounds pretty spot on. It's weird, but it is fascinating. Like finishing a puzzle you didn't even realise you'd started. I'm slowly working through a list of books I've seen mentioned on here. Very helpful so far. Thanks!
  7. Just lurking about around here has been very helpful and encouraging already. Thanks!
  8. Hey, all. I'm a 27 year-old chap from North Wales. I've not been diagnosed, but I recently started researching Asperger's and discovered, much to my dismay, that my entire personality was available in pamphlet form. Just started the diagnosis process (ie. asked a GP who was very nice but had no idea what I was on about and promised to send me a letter from his psychologist friends). At the moment, I'm just very weirded out and a little crushed by the idea, if I'm honest. I'm glad to have found this forum as I can't really talk about my suspicions to anyone and you all seem like a nice bunch. Speak to you soon. Thanks - Mart.
