Hi lizzy-wilson
I'm a bit older than you but you will find this forum very useful. Lots of young people on here and a variety of flavours, opinions, suggestions, self-help etc. You get out what you put in basically

Have a swimmingly good time...and don't forget that maxi dress (and suitable bra!)

Lynden beat me to it!
AS is a diverse condition with individuals at different places upon the spectrum. Sometimes a post is not interesting, some might be difficult to answer for some individuals. Generally I will only answer a post where I feel I have appropriate knowledge

Bet you look stunning in it!

This is a difficult one. Personally I don't think this student stands a chance in court. Although she might be working "for free" in a shop, she is still "getting paid" by receipt of her benefits. I think she is being greedy.
How times have changed. When I left school, I had to go on a Government training scheme that paid £25 a week. I was not eligible to claim benefits. The money was good enough for slave labour back then but one just accepted things and got on with it. I was thankful to have a job. And it certainly didn't do me any harm as I've not yet been out of work.
The problem these days is that the Government has groomed and encouraged young people to do degrees which would promise them a decent job upon graduation. Unfortunately in the real world, the jobs are not out there.
I applaud anyone who has worked their guts out to obtain a degree if it's for something useful but what I absolutely deplore is a graduate whining about doing menial work: i.e. a job that is beneath them. Personally I think they should be pleased that they have a job and are getting some experience - paid or unpaid.
I would put this down to experience. This student can then approach a prospective employer and say that she has x amount of work experience working in a shop etc. Employers would look more fondly on someone with some work experience than someone without and they would look more fondly upon someone who would turn their hand to anything
But I would also have expected Poundland to have given her time off for interviews etc

Hi SmileyK
See, lots of good advice and tips for you to take note of. You need to be in control of your body rather than it control you. If you can get to grips with your anxiety/paranoia issues, then you've won half the battle. You certainly do not want to make yourself more ill and run down.
Enjoy Turkey ... but REST. Swim to relax rather than make it athletic. Your body needs ...REST
Do take heed of good advice on this forum

Give/ask for a hug and it'll be ok. Your best friend will understand

Isn't there some disgusting tasting nail varnish specifically designed to stop nail biting?

There are excellent finger exercises by Hanon if they are available for download and you can perform at your own pace

Hi Isobel
Your managers don't sound very sympathetic. Are you at liberty to say what kind of work you are doing?
I think the answer to your question is "yes" - AS people in particular like predictability and routine and get very stressed if things are changed.
Many managers don't like/have the ability to manage staff properly or can't manage their own workload efficiently
And before I'm shot down in flames, many managers are excellent at what they do. (speaking from experience lol )

I know you're not a fan of doctors but it might help to find out whether this is joint-related pain or neuralgia (nerve pain).
Do you play a keyboard (i.e. electric piano etc)?. If so, gentle daily finger exercises to strengthen your wrist/fingers should work wonders.

If she's a true friend and she understands you (as you say), then you have nothing to worry about. Don't go tying yourself up in knots about it and reminding her of the issue

It's to do with climbing mountains. You start on a flat plateau and "climb" by the number of posts. So the more you post, the bigger the mountain
Can't remember where but it explains it somewhere here

Yes I see what you mean and I can see a few viewpoints to your essay. You must be one fantastic mum do do a degree and look after 3 children. You must be rather tired...
Sorry to be nosey, what's your degree?

Sa Skimrande, have you received an "official" diagnosis? Is this the reason you are on benefits because you cannot get employment due to having a diagnosis of AS?
If so, then I cannot imagine what it must be like and for me, this is enough for me to "not" get a diagnosis. The world is very discriminary these days. But then if I am unfortunate enough to lose my job (which is certainly possible), then I will probably feel very, very vulnerable and let my AS traits get to me. Nobody would want to employ me at my age
But there are people on this forum in exactly your position (and worse) and therefore hope you can learn/find solice from them
This forum is a great sounding/listening board...

Well done Darkshine, I bet you are really glad to have gone now, despite your worries etc. From your post, it is clear that she took a genuine interest and showed understanding... she sounds like a real gem.
So yes, now she has reinforced things that you already know (such as the 2-pronged physical and pyschological attack), you are now ready to move forward.
As you know, from the physical side, if you don't eat, you will feel sick - on top of all the nausea etc through anxiety and panic. You know what you can eat - is there any possibility of you increasing your intake slightly? Believe it or not, your gut plays a vital role in general wellbeing...it is not there solely for the purpose of digesting food. If your gut isn't in good shape, then you will feel like ###### and this will impact heavily on your psychological well-being.
All you can do is think of today - every day, keep up with the fluids and nutrients and lets hope this GP can kick a*s with regard to the MH team.
Keep up the posts Darkshine, we all care

Actually there's 3 types of people: day dreamers, night dreamers and procrastinators. I seem to be the latter as I can't seem to motivate myself to do important work and research.
But there's one thing at present that I "am" motivated to do and that is I have decided to lose weight for fear of getting diabetes. I go for my gym induction tomorrow.
I'm always motivated to take photographs
But I often go through short depressive stages and motivation hits rock bottom.
