About Me
I am 27 and finally got an Asperger's diagnosis last year at the age of 26. I say finally because it was first mentioned at the age of 17 but it took 9 years to get to an actual diagnosis thanks to being shoved from one useless professional to another - the majority of whom didn't want to know. I was so relieved when I was finally listened to and then properly assessed.
I work as a teaching assistant with children with additional needs and I love it. I have an incredibly understanding boss who helps as much as she can with my difficulties, in order to make the job possible for me. I would like to think my Asperger's Syndrome helps me in a lot of ways because I can identify with the children with ASD more than most people can. Working with these children has become a real passion for me because I know just how difficult school can be when you have differences and difficulties and I want to help make sure the children I work with don't suffer at school like I did, and can achieve their potential.
