curra and perdita welcome and anyone else that i may have overlooked who is new to the forum. lynn
  2. deblegs. my interpretation of direct payments is to get in your own care as and when you need it and from who you want( or it is in our area) i myself are a direct payments employee i night sit for a friend of mine and you are allowed to have so many hours in the bank if you dont use them say for if you decided you wanted to go out for the day etc but after so long they will want to know why there is money unused but my friend found that isnt a problem, doesnt you direct payment scheme have a support team in place (ours does) they do all the wages etc and if need be can find t you the right staff and even help with the interveiwing of the potential employee and they do all the advertising and vetting etc. But as someone says it doesnt suit everyone. lynn

its a big black hole dla, im debating whether or not to go for re assessment for kieran as when i renewed it , he hadnt got his dx of asd and they lowered his rate to low care and because of that i have now lost my carers allowance for him as you only qualify if they are on middle care lynn

this has never happened to me but it always takes them long enough at the best of times so youve now got to go through the gruelling form filling and the wait all over again, but will it be back dated from when you first applied or from when they recieve this new form the later i suppose we are talking dla here. lynn

I did mine through social security, making me responsible for his benefits etc you just have tofill in a form and then they send you a document thing making you their representative when they are happy that the child could not manage their own affairs. lynn

Hi my son was 18 last week and his dla ran out in may they just sent me the forms and i filled them in as usual and he was awarded it again... But now it caused a dilemma, when the letter of the award came back i just looked at it quick then filed it,then i needed it for something a couple of weeks later and i realised they had dropped his rate, but of course i had missed the month appeal date(says you cannot appeal late) so didnt think anymore of it but this morning i got a letter from ica to tell me that because his dla as dropped a rate i am no longer eligible for carers allowance for him.doh should i still appeal against it anyway or put it down to experience. lynn

  12. deblegs. the joy of direct payments is that you can employ who you want and when you want.so dont see why there should be a problem employing your cleaner through direct payments scheme. lynn

  15. yes i totally agree with you cindy unless they come up with a miraculous cure for AS our children will always have it,i have to renew my sons every three years and with mine being lowered this year obviously the way i filled in the form leads them to believe he didnt need as much personal care as he did and how can you define how long each things take, who take s a stop watch with them when doin these things but i think i will start doing all i can say is ts a chore and a nightmare .lynn

  17. My son has been getting dla since he was about ten and i have never had any problems with it ,when it was up for renewal i just took the forms into school and they filled the relevant info in for me bingo. However it was up for renewal this year and for some reason he has dropped down to low care instead of medium care he previously had for some reason i dont know if its because he isnt at school anymore ,but of course i didnt read the letter properly telling me that it had been reduced so therfore missed the the time period in which to appeal. lynn

  20. It works well for most people i think its the flexibilty of it you have care etc to suit you, unlike social services they tell you when they are sending care in, its made life a lot easier for my frend. lynn
  21. Hi i have worked for a friend who has M.S and she uses direct payments and it worked for her, you can choose who you want for your care and as you say they do all the advertising and can help with the interveiwing. In fact when i left i sat in with her to interveiw the potential workers, if im not mistaken the only people you cannot employ is members of your own family. lynn

My son gets dla and he as always got it since he was statemented as special needs and has learning disabilities, he is 17 now and gets income support and sickness benefit in his own right, we used to just have to get a sick note from the doctors when they asked for one, but we dont even have to do that now, has for his finances i have a declaration from social security putting me in charge of his finances as he is in capable of doing this himself.I get carers allowance for him as well but i think there is an earnings limit on this of 77 a week now i think its is. lynn
  23. I think maybe heriditary or birth related, my son now 17 was a fairly normal child had some odd quirks but put that down to childhood, then was statemented with ld at 7 and he developed from there and just became stranger, as ive previously posted he was only officially dx asd on monday, that was only after i was asked for a referal which i waited 18 months for, ive always said that kieran would be like my uncle on my dads side, he reminds me of an older version of kieran, he has ocd (undiagnosed) he sticks to routine rigourously and he isnt very literate, he has never got married and lived with my nanna till she died, and he is now in his sixties , then my mother went on to tell me that two of my great uncles had problems and both commited suicide so it does make you wonder.lynn
