    food

Hi all Had a bit of a thing with k today well most days actually, but today it was more of a misunderstanding on his part (didnt hear me properly) It was about his food, he will only eat e few things and they have to be the same ones or theres hell to pay. He used to love his sunday lunch only now theres no chance of that, the only way i can get him to eat a dinner is if i buy him scooby doo microwave ones the same with everything eg, chicken nuggets, burgers etc (Scooby doo obsession) Anyway today he has his chicken nuggets only he thought i said fish i know they sound exactly the same dont they, but never mind Anyway he screamed until i got through to him that it wasnt and showed him! I would say he has been eating the same things at home now for at least 3 yrs and there are only about 8 things, i dont know how he doesnt get bored with them. I was just wondering if anyone else has this????? Does it ever end?????
  3. Hi all My k does that he takes forever to eat it think this is mainly because he stands waving his fork around and talking to himself, and getting him to get ready for school on a morning is a nightmare he will sit and sit and then when he does finally get them on they have to be sorted out for him. I dont know if this is relevant but he used to be able to put his socks on himself, but now he finds it a real struggle, when i went to see the OT she asked how long he had been on his medication and thought that this may be the cause, Does anyone else find things like this have happened???? Its like hes going backwards somehow!!!!

  8. Hi all I was told by k,s psychologist that i should use que cards(pic cards) as it may benefit him, the only thing is i don,t know how! What do i do with them??? Give them to him? Stick them around the house? and what sort of things do i use them for???? I really need some help on this one!!! PLEASE
  9. Hi all Just wanted to ask how any of you went about getting the school to apply for a statement???? I have mentioned it to them but i was told that i would be able to get any assesments i wanted doing when he was attending the learning support unit at a different school, but to be honest with you when i did mention it i got a blank expression as if she hadnt a clue what i was talking about and all she said was "who would do this" I,m not sure if its a different process as i live in scotland! I would really appreciate some feedback on this!!
  10. Hi all Just wanted to ask your opinions on something. Had the school links worker on the phone this morning, asking me wether if i thought it was a good idea if kyle went to a boys club to help him with his social skills. The only thing is it's only for three weeks up till xmas and its to be done on his lunch break at school. My concern is that kyle doesnt handle change well and its going to end basically before it starts and im not sure if its going to be worth the hassle! Plus its only with the school link worker and from what i can gather her job is only to keep you informed as to whats going on with your child in school (which she doesnt do very well, however i did have a go at her for that) and she has no relevant experience in working with a child like kyle, shes coming out to the house on monday to discuss wether or not i think its something i might want to do Oh and it starts next wednesday. What do any of you think about it am i right to be a little wary of it???? I would really appreciate your opinions!!!!!!!
  11. Thanx for that everyone your posts all have some good points, its like you are all saying ill just have to grin anf bare it till it settles again wish me luck
  12. How do you get them away from it though when its been like this for as long as i remember????? The tantrums and screams are really getting me down!! not to mention the constant tiding of the bedroom after he hasnt been allowed to do something!(god that room gets it)
  13. He is very imature for his age when the psychologist said try and get him to watch a programme with you downstairs thats not scooby do stewart little (his obsession) she said try cbeebies and i said yes but would it not be more approprite to find something more for his age and even she said that this was the stage he was at!!
  14. Thanx butter I think maybe thats what i need to do it seems like i spend every waking moment thinking about it, i even lie in bed sometimes and cant get to sleep for it, its hard not knowing the unknown!
  15. Hi Just wanted to say your kyle sounds so like my K.
  16. Thanx caroline Just sometimes i wonder if im making more of it than i should!
  17. Hi All Just wanted to say something with all the problems i have had with k over the years i have tryed my best to find out the how?what?and why? they could be happening. When i came across aspergers syndrome and saw that he had alot of the symptoms, i went to the library i looked on the internet anything and everything basically to find out as much as i could about it to the point were im convinced thats what it is, but recently i've been thinking what if its not?? This may sound silly but im thinking god if its not what will i do? Does this sound like a daft thing to say? i know everyone wants the perfect child, but i don't know wether i'm just in going into denial! Sometimes when im reading some of your posts i think well he doesnt do that and i know that they are all individuals and some things he does ive never seen any of you talk about! I think the whole thing is just getting to me not knowing is the hardest thing!!! How do you cope til you get the answers????
  18. Hi Just wanted to ask something again (theres a surprise eh!!) What it is my k starts talking like a baby everytime he starts telling you something, if i try and correct him for it he always says "ooh sorry" then just carrys in doing it it is really annoying sometimes i find it hard enough as it is to understand what hes trying to tell me without him doing that, but im not sure he knows hes doing it. Has anyone else come accross anything like this??????/
  19. Hi All Ill explain a little first, on a night when i put k to bed i always let him watch a film (Hyperactive) now every night ill say to him "into bed then which film do you want on" i put it on say goodnight and tell him just watch that one though and then go to sleep. Yet every night hes got it on from 7.30 when he goes to bed until i go up to bed usually about 11.30, now the film is only on for an hour so he must be starting it over and over again. I've come to the conclusion that when i tell him just that one he thinks he has to put it on again everytime it stops. Do you think its the way im telling him that he doesnt understand????
  20. Hi mel Its the same for me hes had 5 computers to date and if hes not allowed on it there is pure hell to pay, yet the only reason i dont let him is to get him to spend more time with the rest of the family (hes upstairs in his room all the time you see) from the miniute he opens his eyes or half opens them he starts talking about missions and levels, nearly 6 years is a long time to listen to it i try my hardest to switch off from it bbut its basically his only way to communicate the conversation started by him always starts with "you know that mission/level aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  21. Hi aro Maybe they alter the test to suit, but like i say i think its just to measre there abilitys, and understanding and to highlight any areas of concern that either yourself or they may have, and then go away with the findings and work out how do deal with them best.
  22. Thanx everyone Just wanted to know as i wa on them for 1yr and a half and wondered if this could of maybe been one of the reasons along with everything else going on at that time of course.
  23. hi all Just wanted to ask, if any of you kids are obsessed with films or computer games how far do they actually take it???? At the minute k has been playing on stuart little game, and although i dont mind listening to him to talk about it (non stop) he told his gran that stewart little had a photo album, (so as usual gran bought him one) he is now running around with a camera taking pictures of the rubber ducks in the bath, taps, tv basically everything stewart does, god i hope it doesnt last long this one is going to cost a small fortune Thanx mam
  24. Hi jenrose My k hasn't played outside now for about a year, when he did he wasn't actually playing with them just along side them. But he would run around acting out his films not doing anyone any harm, and they would kick him or punch him yet he would do nothing back i dont think he understood what was happening, it wasn't just kids his age either some of them were only 3-4 yrs. I let him play out one time for half an hour and watched him from the window,(it broke my heart ) he would be doing his own thing as usual and they would hit him kick him throw things or when they all went into a garden they would shut the gate on him and spit at him. When this happened i made him come in and hes never asked to go out since(not that i would let him play with the little $$%$%$,swear word. Kids can be so cruel!!!
