  1. My son has had the same TA for 3 + years now. He moves to middle school in september so will change TA'S then. His present TA is great with a wealth of experience and training. She attended Early Bird Plus last July with my husband and I, with the support of the school. When Nathan got his statement in reception I was advised about have something concrete put into statement as follows:

" Support provided by staff who are qualified/and or have experience in meeting the needs of pupils with autism".

Experience and a commitment to learn is so important. If a TA is dedicated to learn then this can sometimes outway qualifications. Unfortunatley I do not believe there are alot of qualified TA's in ASD out there but more are emerging with the passion and dedication needed.

    Hope this helps,

  2. Fiorelli

We live in Greater London and my son's statement was reviewed 6 months as a first annual review and then yearly. He is also in year 3 and got his statement towards the end of reception. He has had 25 hrs from the beginning and this has not been reduced( I am known within our LEA for fighting hard!!!). He is in mainstream.

  3. Dear all

My son has ASD,is currently in year 3 with 25hrs/week support. In my LEA my son has started KS2 in fisrt school and will move to middle school next september. He has achieved mostly level 2 in his SATS and is doing really well in mainstream. The LEA have requested that I inform them of which school I would like my son to attend next year so the school name can be amended on his statement. Has anyone any experience of transition to KS2 and has the support been dramatically cut?

There is also a strong possiblility that we may move into different LEA by next september as my husband has started a new job. What is the legality about maintaining a statement if you move to another LEA?

As my husband is in the RAF we may not have an address until nearer the time. Will the new LEA allow us to request a new school if they have the provision without our family having anew address?

    Many thanks

  5. Nathan is in year 2 and has ASD. He is statemented with 25 hrs classroom support and 5 hrs playtime supported by the school in a large London mainstream primary.

He is doing well and we have his statement quantified and specified with Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy. His school have agreed to Early bird+ so starting that hopefully this year.

  6. My husband is also in the RAF. Our son was diagnosed with ASD at 4 yrs. Nathan is doing very well in mainstream school with alot of support. I can only empathise with you due the unstructure life that we can lead in the forces. I am more than happy to talk to you and advise you of all the progress and support we have gained. There are organisations within the military that can help also. PM me, look forward to hearing from you,

  7. Dear all

Many thanks for all your replies. As a nurse I have over enough points to emigrate although I am fully aware that my sons ASD maybe a big concern. He is in mainstream school and doing well. Support and funding in place of 1;1 30 hrs a week. High functioning and doing well in mainstream!

After his annual review today I am sending his revised statement to a migration agent(friend of a friend) to look over and give some advice. We shall live in hope !

  8. Hi

I had this written into my sons statement at the beginning although last january at the annual review parts of his statement were updated. I do not agree with what parent partnership said to you as far as I am aware they must specify and quantify. IPSEA website shows this. My advice is to speak to advocacy for education at the NAS, fab support and they can direct you.

  9. My son has an LSA who has a wealth of experience in ASD, eight years. She has supported my son dince reception and he now is in year 2. The school are supportive in training etc and we are hoping to attend early bird plus in february which the head has agreed to. My son has it written into his statement

    that,

" ***** must be supported by learing support assistant who is trained and/or experienced in meeting the needs of pupils with ASD in mainstream school". I pushed to get the experience to be atleast 2 years but the lea would not agree. I should not complain as it took 6 months to get a final statement written, quantified and specified as I wanted so I was 99% happy. My education advisor at the NAS said it is one of the best statements she has seen in a long time and feels she knows my son.
