  1. My son started senior school in Sept 06 and was not dx until Jan this year, I did however contact his new school as soon as he was offered a place to meet with his Head of Year and explain how my son behaves (social anxiety) they were really helpful and even offered a test they could do to evaluate ASD's. Whilst they tried to help (inconsistently) without a dx I did tend to feel that they saw me as an over protective neurotic Mother, but you have to over come these feelings and go with your heart no one knows your child better than you. Anyway since dx things have improved. My advice to you is to arrange a meeting with Head Of Year 7 and Head of SEN and explain your concerns and in turn you can ask what support they can provide your son. Good luck.

  2. :D So please to hear the day went well. I have always thought Mum's should get to celebrate the birthday as much as the child....bring on the cake LOL !!!!!! I didn't see you program you mentioned, but my DS when anxious/stressed can't remember how to do things, he'll say things like "I know I am supposed to be cleaning my teeth but my brain won't tell me how" !!!!

  3. Weird stuff seems to work for some and not others. Con been having it on his tongue since about the age of 8, don't know what its says about me, but he used to say "I'll just a have a little drop of sherry (!!!!???) before I leave for school" funny we don't keep or drink sherry but it certainly tastes a bit like it.

  4. That's great news, you certainly need the break, I hope you did something nice even if it was absolutely nothing !!!

Hope you don't mind me asking but did Steve have an opportunity to meet the lady before she took him out and have a chance to build a bit of a realtionship?, its only that I imagine my Con taking one look and saying "I am not going with her"

Anyway I hope it continues to go well and its fantastic that he enjoyed himself, seeing your child returning home with a smile is the best therapy :D

  5. Oh Lou >:D<<'> I don't have any knowledge or experience for respite care, but can see the others have come up with lots of ideas, I truly hope they help. As you have discovered this forum is great, everyone is so kind and lovely and to be honest the best form of support I have found.

  6. Some big >:D<<'> >:D<<'> >:D<<'> >:D<<'> >:D<<'> 's for you guys, I don't really have any advice or things to say to make it better. But I do know that talking about how you feel relieves a little of the pressure and that probably partners or friends are not the best people to sound off to, for me anyway. I am waiting for counselling which my GP is supposed to organising (knowing the NHS it will be a long wait) which should be helpful. But best of all I have found this forum to be the perfect place to share each others expereinces, the support is fantastic and we can also have a little joke along the way which helps me to see this "life in a bubble" we are leading is infact quite normal.
