Having just been made redundant, my wife and I are considering moving to Devon for a simpler more relaxing life. We have a 7 year old diagnosed with Aspergers and perhaps other complications and currently live in Notts. At present we are getting little or no help at School and it just seems to be one constant battle with School and the LEA etc. Our medical advice is that our Son needs a Statement but the LEA say no one in Notts needs a statement!!! Is this likely to be the case in Devon or are they an LEA that doesn't try to fob you off at every opportunity? i.e. What is Special needs provision like in Devon? Thanks JonnyT

My son aged 6 is on School Action Plus and gets 1.5 hours per week. He has a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome with overlying ADHD I feel that we are being badly short changed. Certainly in September I'm going to ask for more one to one. JonnyT

Hi, Our son aged 6 and a half has a diagnosis of Aspergers with overlying ADHD. At present our home life is non existant due to his agressive and disruptive behaviour. However School think he is a little angel despite the fact that educationally he is way behind. The problems are compounded because he has a twin sister whom he has throttled and banged her head against a wall several times. The last such event resulted in weals on her neck and hand marks that lasted a week. Obviously it is totally impossible to supervise 24/7 Our son only has to be challenged to absolutely explode. He cannot walk past a flower without destroying it, deliberatly kicks and throws stones at Cars and just has to be defiant and disruptive at every juncture. This hasn't been helped as his Psychotherapy is being stopped due to a NHS reorganisation. We have it in writing that this is not a clinical decision. Over the past few months he has become noticeably more fidgity and is always lying down with his legs in the air. Our family therapist has now suggested that we are at the point where we need to try medication. Does anyone have any experience of any medications for this sort of behaviour? Thanks Paul

Don't worry unduly about the appeal deadline. You can simply reapply if you haven't been to appeal as many times as you want.... An appeal will likely fail unless you have exhausted all other channels. JonnyT
