  1. I hope that you get somewhere with these 'names'.I have a friend who I believe ciould end up facing a similar battle in time.

    It is so awful how professionals just don't seem to want to 'see' it these days.I hope that the people with expertise can help you.xx

  2. My dd has just started Uni and finally got support for dyslexia in the 6th form.

    I don't know if the testing for all age groups is the same but hers involved finding out her IQ and a battery of other tests.Her difficulties were recognised because there was a disparity between her (above average) IQ and the level of her written performance.Her handwriting speed was also tested and was found to be much slower than the average rate,too.

    She is now waiting to hear from the LEA about specialist equipment to use at University but she might require further assessments because the testing methods are slightly different for adults and she is now 19.xx

  3. Do you have access to the SEN code of practice?It is downloadable in PDF format.

    There is a section on naming a school;

    'Parents may express a preference for a maintained school but not a PRU or hospital special school they wish their child to attend,or make representations for a placement in any other school.LEAs must comply with parental preference unless the school is unsuitable to the child's age,ability,aptitude or special educational needs,or the placement would be incompatible with the efficient education of the other children with whom the child would be educated,or the efficient use of resources.LEAs must consider parental representations and arrange any meeting(s) with LEA advisers or officers the parents seek,before issuing the final statement.'

    The interpretation goes on to say that;

    An LEA that believes that the education of a particular child in the mainstream would be incompatible with the efficient education of others must consider whether there are any reasonable steps they could take to prevent the child's inclusion from having that effect.In relation to a particular maintained school they must consider the reasonable steps that they or the governing body could take.

    There might be a lot of relevant pieces in section 8,which you could use to see if the LEA and the school are complying with the law.Otherwise,you may be able to argue that if educating L is incompatible with the efficient education of all the other children,then he must really require a specialist placement!!!xx

  4. In the early years of our marriage,my dh would get a migraine every single holiday.It seemed to happen every time that he had down time and was not very flattering!!It seems to have sorted itself out over the years and I just accept that sometimes this may happen.xx
