Canopus Report post Posted January 13, 2007 Does anybody know if IGCSEs are better for kids with AS than GCSEs? An IGCSE is an all examination version of the GCSE with no coursework. They are NOT offered by mainstream schools and I don't think they are offered by LEA run special schools, EOTAS, etc. because coursework is part of the National Curriculum. They are only available to kids at independent schools, distance learning courses, and private candidates.
barefoot wend Report post Posted January 13, 2007 Canopus My son is currently doing IGCSE Maths and IGCSE Biology at home. They are better for him as do not involve reams of coursework which he finds very tedious. I know quite a few independent schools (such as Sevenoaks - champions of the IB) also have swapped over to them as they are deemed more 'rigorous'. Not sure if that's true or not. We plan to sit exam this summer so will keep you posted. Barefoot
